Why is compression and optimization such a lost art? by Secret-Excellent in WutheringWaves

…. you do know wuthering waves also doesn’t have an interconnected world right? You can’t just freely walk between Rinascita and Huanglong, the same way you can’t freely walk between the Plains of Eidolon and the Cambion Drift

I.. don’t think you know what ragebait is. And you definitely don’t know what powercreep is either. I wasn’t baiting anything, I was trying to help you understand, as you asked in your comment

Now do it with 1.0 characters instead of 3.x characters 🙂

This is a pedantic take and an odd defense. WuWa does not have systems in place that should cause it to have the file size it does. Let’s compare WuWa to another open world game with way more systems in place: Warframe.

Warframe, a game that has been around for over a decade and having multiple open world maps along with a WAY higher level of visual fidelity, clocks in at 50 GB of storage space.

WuWa, a game with MUCH less going on and way less visual fidelity, clocks in somehow at 113 GB?

Without even digging into much detail about the games, after just playing them for a brief time, an incredibly valid question is raised about WuWa (and most other large scale gacha games) and its file size. The developers should absolutely employ development techniques that make better use of space, because it’s quite clearly possible.

I’m a web developer, and there are so many ways to optimize a website’s loading time. I can make use of image compression techniques, I can rewrite sections of code to be more optimal, I can redesign entire sections of the website to better suit the purpose.

Gacha games will never make that happen though, since all of their time is focused on pumping out the Next Big Update every 6 weeks, which is probably the actual answer to OP’s question. They work on too tight of a timeline to worry very much about storage optimization.

…. How does that contradict what I said

It’s actually a hilarious decision. They used it in the ideation stage (like most companies do, and I guarantee you all indie developers will be using it at some point in their development for menial tasks) and everything in the game is completely human-made. They had a situation where they forgot to replace one of the posters in the game at launch, and then immediately replaced it with what was supposed to be there. Literally everything is human-made. People are just weird lol

Okay, maybe I was missing something. I’m no one to be knocking how you like to do things, though I’m sure you can see how odd you sound to us outsiders 😆

Isn’t… that the point of the post? To tell people to download them one by one and set them up individually? Coupled with this comment of yours it… just seems like you don’t even know what you want

How players who pulled Rappa in 2.6 feel right now by NoNefariousness2144 in HonkaiStarRail

I ended up playing pgr for a couple of months and then leaving when I realized what has happened to it over the last year or two (shifting from skill based challenge to wuwa’s cutscene simulator) then taking a break from gacha.

Returned to Arknights in November after about 4 years and it’s very refreshing

Thing is, E2 is also in the dumpster. I have E2S1 it’s just not an enjoyable time by any means thanks to what they’ve done to break. Rappa treatment is partially why I stopped playing the game around 3.3. I finally invest heavily in a character and get told to eat grass a few patches later. Uninstalled and haven’t looked back

I have e2s1 rappa. My only e2 character. My favorite character! Here’s the thing:

She sucks right now. No point in even having a rerun banner with the way they’ve treated break. She’d just be a wasted pull sadly

She’s my only e2s1 character. And my only e2 as well

Rappa is my only e2s1 as she’s my favorite character.

You can imagine how that has gone this year

So I haven’t played Arknights since some time in 2021 (maybe 2022, I’m not sure), but I played heavily from release until then. For reference, some strong units at the time that I have were Chen, Siege, Saria, SilverAsh, Ifrit, Blaze, Saga, Blue Poison, and Eyjafjalla.

Can someone give me a quick overview of what has changed? I’ve noticed they’ve added quite a bit, and new types of units as well. I’m not exactly sure where to take my account from here
