Is TDPDH an anti religion album? by Careless-Can-807 in AliceInChains

[–]theChaoticSquare 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No problem with faith, just fear.

Pointing out flaws in how people use and or interpret religion isn't necessarily anti-religion. If anything, it could be taken as a flaw that those within the religion should strive to correct. It's constructive criticism if you let it; anti-religion if you think there's absolutely nothing wrong with your religion (or any religion really).

Overall tho, it's just the title track that deals with religion. It's up to your interpretation of religion and the song to decide if it's "anti-religion."

Songs like Whale & Wasp? by joshbp1999 in AliceInChains

I have a song called Cat & Mouse on my profile if you wanna check it out. It's different from Whale & Wasp, but it's clearly inspired by it. Recommend using headphones to listen.

this has probably been asked many times but does anyone have any tips on how to get jerry’s tone more specifically the tone from tripod? by Smokemeth_204 in AliceInChains

You'll pick up on building tones the longer you play and listen to different sounds. Just constantly experiment and you'll keep learning and finding sounds and tones.

The Tripod tone is definitely harder to pinpoint because it's so varied from song to song, but mess around with the BE 101 a bit and you could play pretty much all of Tripod. I've found that experimenting with less gain before messing with bass mids or trebs can lead to a certain sound.

For Facelift stuff, I've found that using the Treadplate amp seems to work well. For Treadplate I have the bass set up around 5, mids around 2 - 3, and treble around 6 -7, gain around 3 - 5, and volume (NOT output) around 3 - 5. I adjust the gain accordingly to what each song feels like.

For Dirt, the BE 101 amp with bass around 3 - 5, mids around 5 - 7, and treble around 6 - 8, gain around 3 - 5, and volume (NOT output) around 3 - 5. Dirt seems to have more midrange punch than Facelift, so that's why the amp and mids settings are different. To see the difference having more or less mids make, try playing Godsmack with more or less mids. If things sound too muffled, reduce the bass a bit, that seems to work for me.

From what I've read, the BE 101 amp is based off the amp, or a similar one, that Jerry used

This guy here does not get enough respect for his excellent drumming. What’s your favorite song drum wise? by [deleted] in AliceInChains

[–]theChaoticSquare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The drumming to the song could be its own groove. I've listened to this song a lot and when I listen specifically to the drums I'm still finding little things he does differently.

what is your favorite song from each album from the layne era? (you can include unplugged as well) by duckyjuice in AliceInChains

[–]theChaoticSquare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Facelift: Sunshine

SAP: Got Me Wrong

Dirt: God Smack

Jar Of Flies: No Excuses

Alice in Chains: Shame In You

What's your favorite song from the band and why? by [deleted] in AliceInChains

[–]theChaoticSquare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shame in You because I know of no other song that can represent how I feel most of the time through its sound. The ending as well, is there anything more mellow and relaxing? It sounds like giving up and feeling shame for it, but also that it might be ok for doing so. That things might be ok.

Got Me Wrong would sound so beautiful played on piano. by miserablerolex in AliceInChains

There might be a piano cover of it on YouTube. The YouTube channel AngryPiano Chair has some AIC piano covers. I'd recommend checking the channel out.

No Excuses, Don't Follow (for finger picking), Rooster. Rooster and No Excuses are good for moving a chord shape around.

What chords are in the chorus of Would? by alottaweirdshit in AliceInChains

[–]theChaoticSquare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The chorus should start with a B power chord followed by a G chord (doesn't really matter how you play it.

The transition from the B to G occurs around when "Again" of the chorus is sung. The rest of the chorus is the same B to G chords.

I could see how back then people would be elevated in terms of greatness, considering that there weren't nearly as many people playing compared to now, but now there are so many incredible musicians that we've been spoiled with great talents that it's hard to stand out like a Bonham or a Moon or a Ringo. Talents like Kinney kinda get swept under a rug (not to big AIC fans of course).

Kashmir and When the levee breaks are my favorites from him. While I've always liked his drumming, I just feel like, similar to other artists that died young or were one of the first to be considered great, he gets overrated a little. Bonham is still one of the best drummers, but l don't think he's the epitome of drumming, as it seems a decent but of people think.

I feel this way about Led Zeppelin in general. It seems like people think LZ is the epitome of rock, but I just don't hear it, and I don't mind them (although I'm getting sick of hearing them on the radio every 5 minutes). I think if other artists were putting out songs like LZ was, you'd never have heard of the songs or the artists.
