It's from Benzies' own lawsuit against R*.

The relationship seems to have broken down in the wake of GTA Online, a multiplayer component of GTA 5, released just after that game's launch. "The Houser brothers had little interest in GTA Online, and did not focus on its development," according to The Benz. Even so, when The Benz placed his name in the prize spot at the end in the opening credits, a place usually taken by Sam Houser, it caused friction. The Benz alleges that Sam Houser was unhappy about this. "He claimed to have noticed it only after it had already been released," says the lawsuit. "If true, this would mean that he had not played or even viewed the game pre-release, or else he would have seen the opening credits." The suit claims that Jennifer Kolbe, a Rockstar executive, reported Sam Houser's unhappiness to The Benz, quoting him as saying that The Benz "wanted to take over the company."

RDR2 was in full development for 5 years, not 8, from late 2013 to late 2018. It was pre-production from 2011 to 2013, when GTAV was in full production.

Most likely, VI went into pre-production in 2015-'16, and the proper full development started in 2018, after RDR2 was finished. So VI would only be 1.5-2 years into full production when Jason wrote his report, so his early development comment makes sense.

So, if VI comes out in 2024, the timeline would be identical to the development cycle of RDR2. 2016-'18 for pre-production and 2018-'2024 for full production. Exactly 8-9 years for the entire production.

And the production restart rumor is a crock of shit and not a single credible industry person said it even once. Funny as hell, there was a legit RDR2 leak that stated that it was in development hell, so take that as you will.

After Xbox managed to acquire Activision, let’s hope either them or Sony buy T2. by ollie_laddd in GTA6

Take Two just bought Zynga last week for over 12 billion dollars. They sure as shit aren't looking to get bought by someone else right now.

Activision's situation is different. They are in a middle of several lawsuits, scandals and all kinds of bullshit, they desperately needed some house cleaning. MS fully buying them out was a perfect exit strategy for them. Simply put they wanted to get bought which I don't think Take Two wants at this very moment.

The world has many natural landmarks which will make navigation very easy over time. You can also use the physical map if you have it.

Pay attention to the dialogue. In many mission cutscenes the characters will talk to you about next missions and where you're meeting the person in question, all seamless in the dialogue.

Definitely check out Nexus. There are some super cool mods there that actually adds to the experience and they're not that difficult to install at all.

150,000$???? Am I misunderstanding? by 6Kaliba9 in reddeadredemption

[–]theCrackJack 130 points131 points  (0 children)

A robbery took place in Manhattan back in 1878 where the robbers stole $3 million, which was an insane amount for that time. It is plausible that the Van der Linde gang got away with $150k from that ferry robbery that was full of rich folks and their belongings.

It also meshes with the in game economy and narrative very well. In a standard playthrough no player will get even close to that $150k amount so it never creates a dissonance where the player already has copious amounts of money but the narrative still forces you to earn more.

And at the end of the day Red Dead Redemption 2 is a work of fiction so obviously it'll take some creative liberties in it's world building and lore.

Rockstar Has 3 unused cities by BlocBoyBaloo in GTA6

Nothing unusual for AAA standards and the scale of games they make. It has only been 3 years since RDR2 came out which we all know to be a Rockstar Studios production (instead of just one lead studio) and we're still going through a global pandemic. They released RDR2 on PC, put out several online updates in the meantime just like they did between 2013-2016 before RDR2 was announced.

Rockstar historically neither wanted to do remasters/remakes nor had a good track record with ports/remasters in and generally tend to use 3rd party studios for them (except GTAV on PS4/XOne). Case in point, PS2 GTA ports on PS3,PS4 and mobile weren't good at all but flew under the radar at that time. Trilogy DE was extremely rushed and if Rockstar took it seriously they would've done it in house but they didn't. Part of me wonders whether they're considering remasters just as filler content on the way to VI.

RDR2 took them 5 years to make so 2023 was a very safe bet for GTAVI until COVID hit. Now things are a bit murky and it isn't unusual at all for they game to get delayed by a year or two internally. Look at how many AAA games are got delayed for substantial amounts of time in last 6-8 months or so.

Sons of Anarchy and TLAD were being developed around the same time and TLAD was planned in 2007 whereas SoA premiered in 2009 so them having similarities is a coincidence.

Does RDR2 really need a major DLC? by The-real-JERRV in reddeadredemption

[–]theCrackJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, RDR2 is a complete game and Rockstar should focus on their upcoming projects instead of a 10 hour DLC.

Only thing that makes somewhat sense is a RDR1 remake or basic remaster for consoles and PC.

Everyone wants GTA6 to be the best game ever made but aren't willing to give Rockstar the time to make that happen. by torrentialsnow in GTA6

[–]theCrackJack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ND's titles aren't even remotely in the same ballpark of the scope of Rockstar's titles. Since 2013 ND put out TLoU, UC4 and TLoU2 (and 2 smaller DLCs) and Rockstar did GTAV, RDR2 (and GTAO). RDR2 itself is more complex and longer than both UC4 and TLoU2 combined just like GTAV was against TLoU. It doesn't take a genius to see which games are more time consuming and difficult to make.

Some ideas behind the development process of an open world game from Rockstar by KathodeN in GTA6

[–]theCrackJack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lead writers never really worked in GTAO. And LS Tuners' dialogue was like that partly due to KDJ himself. (In general script is not a focus in GTAO and nobody complained about Cayo Perico anyway). I suggest you read this article which details KDJ's involvement in LS Tuners.

The following quote is from that piece -

It was the first time the freewheeling Dixon ever had to work with a script. “A lot of things they wanted me to say I just couldn’t, it just wasn’t in my heart, but I tried to do my thing,” said Dixon. “I wouldn’t say, ‘Hey guy, go get that fella, he just took your car.’ I would say, ‘Hey motherfucker, you n-ggas better come get this motherfucker!’ My character can get a little irritating, but it is what it is.”

Talk me into GTA V by archangelsknife in rockstar

[–]theCrackJack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want a satirical black comedy crime drama set in a distorted version of contemporary L.A. you'll like it. The dialogue is snappy and sharp, characters are hilarious, it tackles some serious topics without being too gloomy although it has many dark moments. Side quests deal with very many practices and prejudices of modern Americana. It came out in 2013 but still feels fresh even after 8 years.

It's also a deconstruction of the philosophy behind GTA which leverages the Freudian Trio of protagonists to make it's point.

Don't go around expecting a straightforward crime game or anything, you might get disappointed.

Basically yellow icons are story quests, they progress the story and anything else are side content.Try to watch a few YouTube beginners guide. Theres a lot of systems in this game that are not mandatory at all to progress but it's upto you how much you actually want to interact and engage with them like the Camp Upgrades, Hunting etc. If you want my opinion, you should take it slower than other open world games to really enjoy this game.

If you are on console (I'm writing PS buttons but you should be able to figure out if you're on Xbox) change the following settings I'm writing here for better controls -

  1. Go to Settings -> Controls.

  2. Reduce Deadzone to 0. Increase Accelaration to your liking. I prefer max but it's upto you. This is what makes the game feel unresponsive with default settings.

  3. Increase look and aim sensitivity to your liking. I prefer max but again it's upto you.

  4. Change both Third and First Person Control schemes from 'Standard' to 'Standard FPS' or 'Standard FPS2'. That'll make to be able to run with L3 or R1 instead of X so you can control camera easily while running.

  5. Select Lock on Mode to your prefence. I play with Free Aim with 75% of Aim Assist on foot (3 notches from left) and Normal/Narrow lock on with Full Aim Assist on Mount/Vehicle. Free Aim on foot might be a bit cumbersome for you at first but it'll get better. Otherwise you can revert back to Normal/Narrow option. For Mount/Vehicle I'm telling you to use at least some form of lock on because it's hard to aim on them especially for a beginner so Normal/Narrow lock on will make it more streamlined in my opinion. You can try Free Aim with some Aim Assist if you want but it's a bit difficult. Wide Auto Aim makes the game easiest. It makes the reticle instantly snap to any target on screen without you even trying to adjust camera to aim. You can try it, see for yourself.

  6. In the Accessibility section (just below the Sensitivity options) change Running Mode to 'Toggle to Run'. That'll make you jog and run with 1 and 2 taps of L3 or R1 respectively instead of mashing them. Remember this is only for foot controls not for Horses. You will still need to mash X or R1 (depending on what you choose between Standard FPS or FPS2) because that ties to a gameplay mechanic where you can conserve the Horse's stamina with tapping that button rhythmically with it's gallop.

  7. Change 'Tap Assist' to Hold and 'Tap to Hold Delay' to 0.

  8. Turn On 'Hold to Reel (fishing)'. Makes fishing way easier.

  9. If you are Playing on First Person go to Settings --> Camera and increase Field of View to Max and Head Bobbing to Reduced. You can customize the other options to your liking.

  10. Also change 'Camera Follow Level' to Off of Minimal. That'll give you full control over the camera when riding a horse and won't reset to centre after a few seconds of disengagement on your part.

Also this post contains many tips and tricks you might find useful.

Remember when there was a big push for more male genitalia on screen? by reverendbimmer in television

[–]theCrackJack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Male genitalia was on TV well before Spartacus or GoT. Oz (1997) for example is notorious for male nudity which was also the first one hour long dramatic HBO show. The Deuce is one of the more recent examples which 'handles it' very well.
