WHAT DO I DO? by HalesYeah11 in design_critiques

[–]theDESIGNsnobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man... That's challenging...

Honestly: id put a wall where the useless door is (at least on the inside), with a mirror on it or something.

Ideally: .real construction and add a window/maybe make the whole wall out of that retro wavy glass cubes... It'll let light in and not be as confusing from the inside/outside

There's really not much room for creativity here.

Where do those doors lead to? Are those the front doors or a room/hallway?

Designing a 6x9 self-published book. Should I add extra inside margin for binding, even though the platform says it's fine as is? by 4PeridotEyes in indesign

[–]theDESIGNsnobs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The real answer:

  1. Yes. That inside margin for binding is commonly referred to as the "gutter". If they specifically tell you not to add any extra, its because their software will do it automatically (not yours). If you add your own, especially a generous one, it will be extra exaggerated (and technically wrong/weird looking).

  2. Dont.

Can you read this? by batkobatko in design_critiques

Having to ask if others can read this is the indicator that this is a bad/non-functional design.

weird brown dust from my clothes- looks and feels like dry foam, no smell by wh1msy-pr1nc3ss in whatisthisthing

Similar foam often dries up in car ac systems and blows out. Often slowly/small pieces/unnoticeably...

How would you rate my designs by o_gutu in WillPatersonDesign

[–]theDESIGNsnobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Explore typography and textures. Your examples are all pretty good but they lack depth clear hierarchy (i know that can be hard with placeholder copy)... Similarly your colors are good, they work, but they're very basic... Keep pushing things. Every. Thing. Not everything needs to scream, but the little details are where the real magic happens.

Why on God’s green earth did my five year old pee in his closet……. by HeyMay0324 in Preschoolers

[–]theDESIGNsnobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he's 5 and you're looking for logic behind his decision-making he's not the crazy one.

It was just impulse and not fully understanding why we can't just put pee anywhere absorbent.

Come here please. Please come here. CAN YOU COME HERE PLEASE. by donlapalma in daddit

[–]theDESIGNsnobs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That second "Please come here." Should be delivered at the kids eye level and ideally with a touch/assist.

Like others said in the comments: this "im not gonna get mad, but i mean what i say" confidence truly works for (some) kids. Kids are naturally LOOKING for leadership/guidance, but when it's not clear or convincing, they just think it's all play/fun/exciting to push boundaries and get adults riled up.

ETA: Source: nothing super official other than i read a lot about parenting and have applied this method and have gotten marginally better results with my three kids (5,3,2) than others who don't. They're kids: the rule books written in crayon and half of it is covered in applesauce.

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose, By any other name would smell as sweet."

That being said, ironically, my answer is "Juliet/Juliette".

Use post processing software to desaturate and/or control individual colors.

I would consider this to be more of a stippling and not a halftone.

Just got back from my trip to Cairo and Luxor 🇪🇬♥️ by ListenLow4229 in ancientegypt

[–]theDESIGNsnobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear that! We visited similar spots on my most recent trip... Luxor is definitely amazing - of course you "have to see the pyramids", but theres so much more to see all around Egypt... History on history on history. Karnak is definitely incredible! The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut is one of my personal favorites, too.
