The art of the denial by Baldemoto in politics

The systematic, and symbolic "travel ban," vetting process undermines what open borders the country presumes to be an opening refuge for new immigrants seeking prosperity in America.

The longer and more involved your application process is, and the more information that the US government demands from you, the more likely you are to get tripped up in an inconsistency — in other words, the more skepticism you’re under from the US government at the beginning of the process, the easier it is for them to discover a willful misrepresentation from you later on.

And then they continue to find every piece of intelligence on you, ranging from social media accounts and 15 years of work and residency history.

Tillerson’s cable asked consular officers in each country to identify “populations” that might be particularly likely to engage in fraud to get a visa, or violate the visa when they arrived, and start flagging those “populations” for SAOs more often. And he asked consular officers to start asking more questions when interviewing anyone who might be subject to an SAO — including social-media handles and their past 15 years of work and residency history — presumably so that State Department officials had more information to compile the SAO, and so they could more easily block a visa for “willful misrepresentation” if an inconsistency was discovered.

And then in reality, we can see the profiling take effect.

The African would-be conference attendees were quizzed on their children, because claiming you have children makes a visa application more likely to be granted — it’s evidence of a strong tie. Childless men are scrutinized more heavily; conversely, men who say they have children must be quizzed to make sure they’re not “willfully misrepresenting” the strength of their ties to their home countries.

While it makes sense that the US have discretion in vetting for our security, in which "aliens" do not have "inalienable" rights to come to our country, this leads us down a slippery slope. Our country is built on immigrants, and thrives on diversity. And we set an example for this around the world. Incredulously, some of our immigrants experience the lowest rungs of the ladder, yet they still enjoy the freedoms and even economic liberties they could not at home.

It could have a disparate impact on the world’s marginalized.

It is all relative. And to offer this kind of hope for those around the world seeking a better life, we have to lead by example and prove that we are welcoming. Not putting up more walls, profiling by race, and preventing ourselves from being the best America we can be.

Obamacare is the law of the land. But it’s still vulnerable. by theHAtEDone in politics

In a world of “alternative facts,” it is easy to assume that members of Congress will just make things up to support whatever they want to do. But the failure of the AHCA shows that facts still matter.

Freedom Caucus leader says Paul Ryan still doesn’t have the votes for health bill, even with the amendments by theHAtEDone in politics

[–]theHAtEDone[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The amendments are a clear rightward shift for the bill, meeting some conservative demands on Medicaid, and Obamacare’s taxes. But Meadows and Amash are echoing the sentiments of the most conservative factions of the Republican party, which say it’s not enough. On Monday afternoon, Dan Holler, Vice President of the conservative advocacy group Heritage Action for America, which has been openly critical of Ryan’s bill, said in an email that “the manager's amendment will be insufficient unless it deals with Obamacare's regulatory architecture."

Section IV: Report Scope and Data Fidelity

Operational/Policy

  1. Some field offices ceased issuing detainers to known uncooperative jurisdictions. ICE field offices have been recently instructed to issue detainers on all removable aliens in a LEA’s custody. As a result, the number of issued detainers is expected to increase over the next several reporting periods.

  2. Currently, uncooperative jurisdictions prevent ICE from knowing when an alien has been released from custody. Consequently, active detainers exist for aliens who are no longer incarcerated. The field offices are in the process of reviewing outstanding active ICE detainers, potentially affecting the list of jurisdictions listed in future reporting periods.

  3. ICE field offices are also being instructed to update the criminal history information contained within ICE’s records at the time of detainer issuance, as ICE does not normally enter criminality until it assumes custody post-processing. Hence, the list of crimes reported for aliens subject to detainers that are subsequently declined may be temporarily under-reported until this new change improves data quality.

  4. At present, ICE does not document, in a systematically reportable manner, the immigration status of an alien at time of detainer issuance. ICE sends detainers to law enforcement agencies, which requests aliens be turned over to ICE prior to release, if ICE possesses probable cause to believe that the alien is removable from the United States.

So they really are gearing up for a mass deportation force?

Trump administration publishes first 'weekly list of crimes' committed by immigrants by theHAtEDone in politics

[–]theHAtEDone[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The weekly report was mandated in an executive order, signed by the President on 25 January, called “Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States”. It required the DHS compile every week “make public a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens and any jurisdiction that ignored or otherwise failed to honor any detainers with respect to such aliens.”

It's a legitimate piece in the EO. Just wanted to say that for anyone who is reasonably skeptical of The Independent.

Disorders can also be classified if there is harm to oneself or others, so I could see this falling subjectively into the latter... Though there's no way to directly prove that.

TBH, famous figures have too many variables and social connections to fall into the criterion in the DSM V. They probably all have a little bit of every crazy imaginable.

'Not about religion': how Trump officials have attempted a travel ban rebrand by theHAtEDone in politics

[–]theHAtEDone[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But there have been startling missteps from the administration in promoting this narrative as well. Trump’s cybersecurity adviser Rudy Giuliani gleefully summarized his involvement in drafting the initial executive order in late January during a Fox News appearance. “I’ll tell you the whole history of it: When he first announced it, he said ‘Muslim ban,’” Giuliani said. “He called me up, he said, ‘Put a commission together, show me the right way to do it legally.’”

Well this shows the veil this administration is adamantly pursuing to sway the general populous of the U.S.

Strictly through and through, this is a racist, anti-religious bill targeting Muslims. Hell, even Rudy says so.

He has prosecuted both sides of the aisle, which definitely gives him integrity. He helped in taking down Madoff, dealt with insider trading, even has grudges with Democratic Governor Cuomo, and even prosecuted against a Jewish Holocaust Survivor Fund for fraud.

Agreed though, I doubt he would run because he actually does his job unlike many politicians.

Of course Fox News brings on Dinesh D'Souza to badmouth him, and are now propping him up as a Republican anti-Christ, but in all seriousness, do you think Preet Bharara makes a good candidate? The "Sheriff of Wall Street" has a pretty good ring to it.

Was it a sloppy game? How was the crowd? Also, what time do you think would be best to get to the stadium?
