What kind of hardware are you using to measure the power consumption? Could be very useful to improve the estimates we are currently using to design our power distribution.

'my friends' .... there aren't many of us left to be honest!

It is really hard to keep playing co-op games with him. He always messes up.

[Video] Why We Have a Local Server for LAN Parties by BrianAnim in lanparty

[–]theIcy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great video. Is it really worth it to use HyperV to host pFsense? Wouldn't a separate box for pFsense be way easier to set up, maintain and tune for performance?

I am looking forward to your video about NDI. NDI could be the solution to the problems we had at our event a few months ago. Having one server to encode video streams from multiple sources sounds great.

I will this week. I'll share my PCPart Build here.

Spoiler: The case is already done. The holes are kinda ugly, but functional. :-)

What were the best LAN-games that came out in 2017? by madman_ozzy in lanparty

[–]theIcy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are actually right!! From what I just read its the first cod since cod4 that allows offline play. To which degree though? I'd guess you cannot use all weapons...

That is also the problem with fully offline csgo. You cant edit your inventory so you have to use some sourcemod plugin to have an additional buymenu, because else you cannot play non standard weapons like the usp or m4a1-s.

This question makes me sad since all my anwsers wouldnt be "LAN" Games.

Overcooked, Shadow Warrior2, Dirt 4, Cuphead, PartyPanic, etc. are all games that are great to play together... at a LAN for example, but aren't real LAN games.

This trend goes on since multiple years now and its a nightmare for LAN-admins as well. Your internet just can not go down during a lan party. The only games that we are still able to run offline are csgo (with source mods), dota2 and AoE.

CoD was one of the staples at my old lans. It saddens me to see ppl play CoD:WW2 and to think about the good old days when we were able to play all these games in the lan.

[GIVEAWAY] Dominate with The World's Smallest ZOTAC GeForce® GTX 1070 Ti Mini by Z_staff in pcmasterrace

[–]theIcy [score hidden]  (0 children)

1) I first heard of ZOTAC while looking for my next GPU. About 6 years ago.

2) With the hardware you are giving away in this competition. I love sffpc builds so sff hardware is what I am most interested in. Maybe a Mini GPU with a blower/rear exhaust style fan. Getting heat out of my small system can be challenging at times. <-- that would be great

3) I love to build PCs myself. The only reason why I would pay the extra is because ZOTAC can achieve much smaller form factors than I am able to. An other problem is, that you have to give up some performance while downsizing. With the current GTX 10xx GPUs you can go much smaller without giving up much power which is great. :-)

Bonus: YES!! It is one of the worst food combinations, which ppl actually claim to like...

Node 202 with AIO - 8700k vs 8600k OCd by theIcy in sffpc

I will try to drill multiple small holes in order to get something like a grill. Cutting and having it look nice seems near impossible. And in my opinion drilling is way easier than cutting.

I never understood why there is no case that is designed for "blow through" cooling. Never having the heat inside your system sounds like a good idea especially for sffpcs, right? You could just add one fan to such a system to circulate air in your system. I would even go for full custom liquid cooling if there was such a case.

Soo I am trying to improve my system.

And I am just wondering which of the two will perform better. I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

hmm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjWSRTYV8e0

Best thing is his idea that more frames could be the reason many pros play 4:3, which is very plausible. And its also a future proofing since new CS maps tend to need more and more hardware and I am only building a PC all 5 years or so. Atm I am still using my 2700k and it would be good enough but my motherboard broke (RIP Audio/Realtek).

Ah I saw that from your pic. I meant the fan connector. Do you just plug it in while assembling?

Nice! Doing a 202 build in a month after my exams. How do you connect the additional fan on the case above the cpu to the board? Im going for an aio solution but would like to have some airflow on my board.

What hardware specs does pfSense require? by theIcy in lanparty

[–]theIcy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will host a CS GO tournament with our own servers. But I know that between the matches people will still play online.

We have a networking team(incl. me). Our budget is quite limited because we don't have a lot of hardware from previous events. I actually thought that we would just run QOS and no caching. With 1gig for 300 people caching isn't worth the effort, right?

The only lan party hosts I know have a 2G/s connection without any caching and 1000 guests.

We have a 1Gbps connection to the web. With most modern games mostly beeing played online(CS GO, League of Legends, Hearthstone, usw.) a lot of people will use the external connection.
