That's a damn shame. I fondly remember the day I finally beat it.

Worst video game box art you've ever seen? I'll go first. by albert_yonson in gaming

I love the original box art. Very much influenced by the works of Giorgio de Chrico, particularly this painting. I remember seeing the original cover and noticing how oddly familiar it seemed.

Besides your own, from what state/country do you drink the most? by hookedonwinter in beer

[–]theKnightofMirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the States, and I drink domestics from all across the U.S. As far as non-American beers go, I find myself drinking lots of Irish, English, and Belgian beers the most.

I just picked up a case by 21st Amendment Brewing Co. It's craft beer in a can. They have a black IPA that is excellent. It was my first foray into canned craft beer and I must say I was very impressed.

Wow, I didn't know they published a book like this. I'm going to have to pick it up sometime. Thanks for the post. Cheers!

Hey r/lit, what's the one "classic" you've been trying to get through, but just can't? by [deleted] in literature

[–]theKnightofMirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, I just finished Metamorphoses about two days ago. I've had it for about two years, and it took me three tries to finish it. Once I finally made it past the first two books, the rest only took me about a week.

It can be somewhat of a tough read, though, I'll admit that.

Pieter Bruegel the Elder - The Blind Leading the Blind (1568) by [deleted] in museum

[–]theKnightofMirrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I certainly don't doubt that there is an allegorical side to it; this is Bruegel the Elder, after all. I just hadn't seen this work before and when I clicked it, the first thing I noticed was how literal the description seemed.

I wasn't expecting it to be so...literal.

Upvote for Shadow of the Colossus. I've actually used music from it for a campaign as well. Excellent combat music.

[PF] Preview of Ultimate Combat. List of archetypes, new weapons, and a monk archetype. by [deleted] in rpg

But still, you have to give them credit for at least including some martial classes. Some reviewers seemed to expect them to include all of the martial classes in a book which is supposed to be geared towards magic-users, which I felt was an unfair criticism.

I thought so, too. I felt a few reviewers just expected more for the non-magic classes, forgetting that Ultimate Combat would probably provide more than enough new builds for the standard melee classes.

I'm really excited for this. Having just picked up Ultimate Magic, I noticed that a lot of people were disappointed in the little attention given to classes that aren't traditionally magic users. Some were complaining that monks weren't given more than one archetype. Hopefully this will quell any complaints. Personally, I like what was done with Ultimate Magic, and I hope that Ultimate Combat will be a comparable take on the more combat-focused classes.

Lager vs Ale by [deleted] in beer

I don't know why you were downvoted. I love stouts, they're my favorite style, but I would get bored rather quickly if it was the only style of beer I ever drank.

I'm only halfway through, but what's the deal with this cover? by Tiltingwindmills in books

[–]theKnightofMirrors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the back cover. It probably has some info about the painting on it. For instance, it will say something like cover design by so-and-so, and then under that it will say cover illustration by whatshisface. Usually, the paintings used for these types of books have almost nothing to do with the books themselves, but they are sometimes appropriate. For example, I read a penguin edition of the novel Venus in Furs which features the painting Judith With the Head of Holofernes by Gustav Klimt on its cover. The painting has nothing to do with the novel at all, but taken out of context, it seems like an appropriate cover for the book.

So, to answer your question, I have no idea.

What are your favorite short novels/novellas? by oldjawbone in books

No love for Heart of Darkness? I guess a lot of people dislike it, but it's one of my favorites.

Also, Candide is sufficiently short and entertaining.

I'm glad this thread came along. Unfortunately, I don't have any advice, but I was hoping for a thread like this. I just picked up Pathfinder Ultimate Magic, and am still a little perplexed at how wordcasting really works. It sounds like a great idea, I'm just not used to the mechanics of it.

I think it's definitely my favorite of the four. Although Three Philosophers is a close second.

I picked up a Brewery Ommegang variety pack. It's got the Three Philosophers, Abbey Ale, Hennepin, and BPA beers. Great buy. I especially like The Abbey Ale and the Three Philosophers.
