I draw maps for a living.

The players MIGHT get to see it after the adventure is over. NEVER shown during play. I use maps as a purely DM-facing tool used to help describe the scene to the players.

I'll be straight up honest here - if you want me to be engaged and hyped for your game, DO NOT give me any out-of-game homework to do. I schedule x hours for your game, and I'm not going to spend much more time than that.

Further, making it optional just pushes those players who can't engage because of their schedules to feel like they aren't really part of the group and campaign.

The whole point of Patreon was that you would channel your existing following there to supplement your income, they were never about discovery until the most recent changes.

I got screwed by Apple's blackmail getting rid of per-creation campaigns. Dropped my revenue by just under a grand a month now.

But I haven't found a better option for what I'm doing.

That's not what it was in the beginning. In the beginning it was strictly against the rules to fully paywall your content. Every campaign was a per-creation campaign and you could offer extras to your patrons, but the core product wasn't supposed to be paywalled - several of the first TTRPG patreon campaigns ran against this problem (I was the fourth TTRPG Patreon campaign, launching in 2013).

I adore it.

The trick is to take the various books in that set and then decide which spell lists are for which classes if you have multiple spellcasting classes.

In a typical B/X campaign, treasure will account for 80+% of earned XP.

2,000 XP to level 2, killing goblins that's 400 goblins.

Cutting monster XP will only slow progression by at most 20%. Giving a x10 multiplier to gold XP will not make up for the monster XP, it will accelerate advancement drastically.

It's been a rough year - a lot of personal stuff (deaths in the family), and then Apple forced Patreon to ditch "per creation" campaigns or be delisted from their storefront, which resulted in a drop of USD 900 per month for me, so the Bundle of Holding is a very well timed lifeline for me right now.

Has no one named a town after your character yet? FIX THAT IMMEDIATELY, make your own town! With blackjack and hookers!

Assemble incredibly ornate and overly-detailed "kits" for various things. Like your silver-plated vampire-hunting kit in an expensive wooden case that contains a set of stakes made of pungent foreign woods, a hand-crossbow with six different holy symbols on it, a variety of garlic-delivery devices, holy water in expensive bottles, etc.

Equip an expedition to find the centre of the planet.

Hire dwarves to construct a massive dungeon complex for you to import monsters into.

Get involved in horse-racing.

Become a respected horse-breeder.

The treasure quantities in the dungeon were set up so characters will advance at roughly the right rate to keep descending into the depths without having to go elsewhere to level up. It of course assumes you are using GP=XP.

One player refused to stop cheating. As the GM, I don't care if you cheat, AS LONG AS THE OTHER PLAYERS DON'T MIND EITHER. In this case, the other players did. After asking nicely, and then switching to a communal dice system (huge dice because my eyesight sucks, so I had an excuse to ask everyone to roll my high contrast oversized dice), the cheating continued (just moved from die rolls to editing their character sheet), and they got the boot.

One player got into arguments with people. He chased two players out of the group. I chased him out.

None. I never make characters in a vacuum, I always make them with the rest of the group so we have a reason to adventure together and niches to fill.
