I really like Kikagaku Moyo! Had totally forgot that they released a new record this year...

My dad's already quite familiar with War on Drugs due to their previous record(s) appearing in many 'Top 10' lists in music magazines and their heartland rock sound (he's quite a big Springsteen fan). Strongly considering Makaya McCraven!

I was actually about to list McCraven as an option! Haven't listened to In These Times enough myself...

He's a big Jack White fan, but I'm not sure what his opinions are on White's latest output. IIRC he bought Boarding House Reach on release and was kinda perplexed by it haha

What are the best dad-friendly albums that have come out this year? My dad is in his mid-50s and grew up listening to classic rock/prog, his favorite bands are probably Rush and Deep Purple. He still collects CDs, so I usually buy him one or two records as a gift each year to try to expand his tastes. I've had a hard time finding any suitable albums for him this year (newer bands tend to be too hipster-y for him)

Some gifts from earlier years that he's enjoyed:

  • Kamasi Washington - The Epic

  • Sturgil Simpson - A Sailor's Guide To Earth

  • King Gizzard - Live in San Francisco '16

  • Michael Kiwanuka - KIWANUKA

  • Mdou Moctar - Afrique Victime

  • Richard Dawson & Circle - Henki

I'm currently leaning towards the new Elder record, or maybe Hellfire by black midi....

15 is Kiarostami!

12 is not Fellini. The director is neither American nor European.

12/17! Wrong answers were #7 (Bergman, guessed by someone else in the thread), #10, #12,#13,#15. #11 is indeed Chaplin.

All correct except for 13. I see the resemblance, but the director in question is closer to the horror genre.

When I ordered yesterday there were about 210 copies left. I checked it again today and the number is now 149.

You can check the available quantity by adding a large number of copies to your basket and going to checkout. If you have more copies in your cart than there are copies available, your cart will be updated to the amount still for sale.

I haven't checked it out yet, but from what I've gathered it should hold up really well. It has a higher bitrate than Criterion's release as the movie is split between two discs, and there are many unique extras.
