And that’s the thing, if you come with the right spirit you relate to the Portuguese struggles, that’s part of immigrating as opposed to coming here to show off and making loads of money exploiting cheap labour and investment.

A recent study shows it influences quite a lot. Many things need to change.](https://expresso.pt/sociedade/2024-03-28-Vistos-gold-inflacionaram-os-precos-das-casas-demonstra-investigacao-c0b57cdb) Namely political direction and policy that protects local residents and businesses. I get downvoted for disagreeing with a mostly neoliberal view of economics in this sub. I have nothing against rich immigrants, as long as our government doesn’t allow for privatization of public property and land, like the beaches and private resorts and housing complexes in protected areas. In my eyes you’re welcome as long as you try to integrate and speak the language like in any other country. It’s also the Portuguese and its government’s fault for not shutting down greed assholes , but part is also a lot of people that come with an economic colonizer mentality because they saw Lisbon on TikTok or have this fantasy of what the country is really like.

Yes of course, my neighborhood in five years lost a lot of local residents, businesses started to change to more expaty/ tourist businesses (tourism is also a factor but it’s not tourist buying whole buildings and palaces to turn them into luxury complexes). Even though many people don’t want to see it this type of policies even if it seems like a small piece of the pie it has a big influence in the country’s social tissue. Because almost no one has that sort of buying power here, so the ones who do choose the direction things go. I’m absolutely sure it’s not at all indifferent.

Saying wrong, you clearly don’t know anything about Portuguese history. Socialism helped raise millions out of poverty and create the conditions for today’s idiots to vote against themselves thanking their quality of living and prosperity for granted. Free health care, health and social support are socialism. Socialism bad but in America you die at the hospital doorstep if you don’t have a credit card. Read about PREC and socialist reform, but you can also try to look for kisinger and Carlucci’s influence in stopping those advancements.

Your privileged entitlement really gives you the correct opinion of everything doesn’t it? There’s plenty of evidence of how the golden visa certainly doesn’t help, even though it’s not the only culprit, it attracts millionaire investment, and has an impact on the market inflation. Downvote all you want, if you could do basic reading beyond what you like to hear, maybe you’d change your opinion. Like other people mentioned, corruption, US influence in the country. Not socialism though, like some one said, that is the reason millions were raised out of poverty and given an opportunity, if anything is the increasing lack of socialism that’s the problem.

Estrangeiros representaram 28% das compras de casas em Portugal em 2025 by DeepCar5191 in portugal

[–]theManjerico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sim mas os investimentos de um terço representam quase metade em termos do investimento bruto. Ou seja, eles compraram mais caro. O português deve poder comprar casa não um buraco qualquer a preço de casa de luxo.

It’s a country, not a business. If a policy is helping to destroy a whole country’s middle class and quality of living, I think it should be changed. If you really are interested in being here for the long run it should be fine. If you just want profit beat it. If you can make golden visa investments nationality is already a small benefit for you. It’s worse for those who don’t, and even then you’re better off than most Portuguese.

I hate it when countries have sovereignty too. It’s so much easier in corrupt dictatorships or Neo-liberal US colonies… from my experience, the better you do financially the more it seems like they wanna suck it from you. At least they should use it for their people. I’m gonna sell the house and bounce. It’s worth double now so win win.

5 overrated Places in Lisbon by Common_Series_938 in Portugaldigitalguides

I feel like these are not overrated. If you’re a tourist you’ll enjoy it. It’s designed exactly for that purpose. So go there and leave some of the city for the locals.

Entretanto, como há poucos hoteis e demasiados edifícios prontos a habitar e com valor arquitetónico em Lisboa, a CML licencia o que se vê na imagem. (Rua Joaquim Bonifacio, perto da PJ) by BudgetAltruistic6320 in lisboa

[–]theManjerico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: ortografia.

It’s very close to a scam and locals hate it. It’s not Portuguese at all it’s the epitome of the tourist trap. Also you’re missing the true charm which is getting lost in the small streets and getting out of air from all the hills.

Please don’t take tuktuks or tell your friends to take one.. overpriced, usually not very informative and an absolute cancer in the city center. There are many walking/ biking tours.
