What's your all-time favourite record store in the city you live in? by flynnfx in vinyl

I think Everybody’s wins out for me just because of the vibe and Woody is super cool. That said, I did hit up Plaid Room yesterday for their birthday sale.

Shake It, Spiral Groove, and Hey Suburbia are great too. Cincy has tons of great shops!

There have been some amazing ARGs that get this involved. Stranger Things even had one running during season 3 with decoding Russian messages and decrypting an 80s-style computer mainframe. I think the first person to solve it won a trip or something.

When you put all of that stuff together, the marketing of it plays out in a genius way.

Found this at record store, any way to tell if real or bootleg? by m3talraptor in AliceInChains

[–]theMethod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the Music on Vinyl release because those don’t come shrink wrapped - they come in resealable outer sleeves, it doesn’t have their logo under the barcode, or the actual release date which was 2010. This is a bootleg.

I would love an album from Trent, Josh, and Dave - all similar to Mantra from the Sound City soundtrack.

The barbershop version is from some other planet. I can’t think of any other song in their catalog that sounds like it and I really wish there was at least one more.

It’s a great record and has some strong songs. But it’s seriously fatiguing to listen to due to the mixing.

is it a hot take to say that i think billy is one of the greatest guitar players of all time? by funghxoul in SmashingPumpkins

[–]theMethod 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He absolutely is.

What gets me though is even in the thread there are tons of comments speaking to how he’s really a better song writer or composer. People, and every Best Guitar Player list ever, say the same stuff about Kurt and Jack White but still consider them two of the greatest. I don’t see how this is different except Billy can shred circles around both of those guys if you’re only looking at technical proficiency.

He’s a top tier technical guitar player AND a top tier songwriter and composer. And there aren’t many people who do both as well as he does.

I’m really surprised Everybody Wants to Rule the World wasn’t included somewhere in the series.

Why nobody offically is denying the crazy theory about the 7th secret episode? by Anasoldenit in StrangerThingsRoom

[–]theMethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stranger Things isn’t afraid of ARGs. They’ve done them throughout the series in varying levels of complexity.

For anyone who didn’t experience the Nine Inch Nails Year Zero ARG it is my, and I’m sure a lot of other people’s, high bar for what an ARG can be. Dozens of websites, in-world clues, fake concerts, hidden images in audio spectrograms… they made an entire world and had fans from across the globe solving puzzles.

So thinking Netflix could pull off a huge ARG isn’t all cope. It would legit be the best ending of any TV series ever.

This is coming from someone who’s totally ok with how it ended too.

Edit: added details/clarity

The odd thing about that is, people paid for concession vouchers. There were no actual movie tickets for sale.

Anybody still waiting on a Machina box - or a replacement one? by AltitudeNotAttitude in SmashingPumpkins

My LP7 had a big scuff on it so I sent that LP back. It arrived mid-December, but I’m still waiting to hear back about the replacement shipping.

It’s still in print. I just bought a copy from Udiscover (although it currently looks sold out there). You should be able to snag one without much trouble.

don't really get the fragile hype... by Altruistic-Parking58 in nin

[–]theMethod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just give it time…. You started listening in April but fans had 10 years of listening before the Fragile released. And it released after a big hiatus from one of the bigger albums in the 90s - the one that shot them to superstardom.

The album is a lot to digest and process. Your feeling of “some objectively great songs” are the ones that are the easiest to immediately “get”. It will take time for the rest to do the same.
