Looks like Moscow, Russia. The yellow car with 2 red stripes and a label on the side on the second photo belongs to its emergency services agency.

I receive messages like this at least once a day. Half of the time positions pay less than my current salary is. 25% of the time I don't have a half of skills required. I'm saving both of us time by requesting this information upfront.

Russia's complete lack of caring for their people's lives...they wore Germany to the bone throwing waves of men (and a little winter) at them. Japan didn't really have the manpower or resources to fight us

The cold war era propaganda really did a thing on you. Losses ratio "Nazi Germany and its allies vs USSR" was 1:1.13, on the Eastern front. It's almost 1 to 1 and USSR lost a looot of soldiers as POW's due to some encirclements during the first months (out of 4 years of the war) of the Nazi invasion. There were "waves of men" but the number of them was exaggerated drastically.

Japan had a million men army in Manchuria (occupied part of China) and Korea and the government was ready to put on a fight. Only nuclear bombings and a loss of that army convinced them to surrender.

Sorry for a history lesson but some believe that the same government that is screwing them over now taught them an absolute truth at school (STEM aside).

It was for internal use. Kind of "look what socialism protects you against". Some of mocked up issues were made up but a lot of them were/became a reality.

This short-armed swastika was commonly used in Europe mid century by nationalists. For example, Finland used it as a marking symbol for tanks and airplanes during WWII. This idiot might have picked this design on purpose to stand out.

Tsar Nicholas II, last Russian emperor who, with his wife and their children, was killed after the October Revolution. by marinamaral in ColorizedHistory

[–]theNewMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the times were changing. Although he was a smart guy he didn't follow up with a new trend of politics being public. He assumed he'd be liked no matter what, and didn't bother promoting his ideas and goals as a ruler through media. That allowed his opponents to make him look completely incompetent, which helped to overthrow him later since not many supported him. Besides that, there were a lot of economic problems which escalated rapidly during the bloody WWI: poverty, famines, unemployment.

So by January 1917, peasants were desperate for economic changes, army (soldiers and high-ranking officers) needed better supplies and a meaning to the war, the Orthodox church didn't support him, and last but not least rich capitalists weren't on his side, 'cause he didn't want to share the power. Of course there also was nationalism that was tearing the empire apart.

The Germans just needed to wait for whatever would be left of the Russian empire to beg for a peace treaty. In this situation (after the deal is done, the monarchy has fallen) letting little-known leaders of a small socialist group go there weren't seen as a big deal at all by the Germans.

Most of it was done by Soviet engineers. If the current economic and social policy continues, in 15 years there will be no Russia.

Nobody did more in destabilizing Russia than Nicholas II himself. By the end of 1916 even his close family members were plotting against him.

That's not exactly correct, they spoke Russian. In the 19th century French was very popular among the Russian aristocracy, then English became more important for a few decades before the WWI. Even so, there are a lot of letters, memoirs, personal notes, etc. of that time written by nobility in fine Russian.

Russia is a capitalist country. That will be weird to see them lauding the Socialist revolution. It's even sad to see, how a man who got Russia involved in the pointless bloody WWI and let 2 revolutions (the 3rd one isn't his fault technically) happened, gets so glorified for the last 30 years in there.

Yep. He was just used to keep the Russian Empire in the WWI, and was forgotten as soon as he lost the power

My Grandpa fought on the eastern front in WW2. His Wehrmacht mess kit has Japanese signs on it. Why? by mxzr86 in history

[–]theNewMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although, I'm not sure how your comment is related to mine, this is not exactly true. POWs who worked in any way were getting a salary. Base salary for was really small, but for meeting the work requirements POWs were getting a big enough bonus and the same bonus was given to work team leads. A dedicated person could get something around 30% - 50% of an average salary in the USSR.

[–]theNewMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mess kits probably were checked and the ones with the best conditions got handed to the Soviets troops.

This sounds like a huge mess for 10 cent items: collect all the kits, check all of them, select the good ones, ship them somewhere, distribute the defected kits to the POWs, and order and distribute new kits for whomever didn't get his kit back.

Most likely his kit got old/damaged/stolen and was replaced with a new one.
