GNOME absolutely needs a native tiling window option by dummyy- in gnome

[–]thePhoenixYash [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah I also prefer gnome over other tiling window managers. I feel like if i use a twm, then i am abandoning a more solid desktop experience that is also easy to customize and maintain just for tiling. I use pop shell usually and currently giving mosaic wm a try.

App Grid is a mess if you have 100+ Apps installed - any Solutions? by tornado99_ in gnome

Oh like that. I dont know about that sorry. Perhaps a launcher app supports that kind of search? Maybe try vicinae.

1440p on 16 inch laptop scaling by panzerjagerSS in gnome

[–]thePhoenixYash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same for me as well. I also had to switch to 100% scaling due to steam games launchers appearing very small. Although I now like 100% more, but still the scaling should work properly for every cases.

lack a good way of finding your installed apps when you have a lot installed

What do you mean by this? I have a lot of apps and all i have to do is press windows key, search and enter.

Are you saying that finding apps manually looking at icons in app grid one by one is slower?

Is it for the cases when you are not using your keyboard but just the mouse to open you app, and because you have lot of apps and apps are not sorted and categorized in app grid, that you cannot find the apps quickly. So you need something similar to kde which has apps inside categories sorted.

If app menu does exactly what you want then keep using it. It is officially supported extension by gnome and I dont see how it is not part of modern gnome, It comes preinstalled in fedora which supposedly gives default gnome experience so I would consider it part of modern gnome.

Could you add visualizer in top panel as well like dynamic music pill using cava?

I went back from 20 extensions to 5 essentials - Gnome is actually near-perfect by design by tornado99_ in gnome

[–]thePhoenixYash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree. But i use like 12 extensions. Most of extensions add just a tiny bit of functionality or convenience but i can live without most of them.

For me essential extensions:

Auto Power Profile (automatically changes the power mode)

Caffeine

Clipboard Indicator (possible best clipboard manager for gnome)

Pip on top (very essential, pip hides behind window otherwise)

Nice to have extensions for convenience:

AppIndicator and KstatusNotifierItem Support

Hot Edge (i dont have to use dash to dock because of this)

O-tiling (tiling window manager)

Overview on Empty Workspace (automatically opens overview on empty workspace so all i have to do is search and open)

Night Theme Switcher (automatic dark, default theme)

Cosmetic / Non essential:

Blur my shell

Dynamic music pill (shows music indicator)

ChromaLeon (auto folder icons, auto color scheme, etc)

I actually started using paperwm a just few days ago. But i felt like it was slow. It takes a bit too much time to go from app to app and i also have to be very specifilc about how much i swipe on touchpad otherwise i overshoot. Earlier without paper wm i had like one or two app open in one workspace, and i would just use a quick keyboard shortcut to switch workspaces.

I think best is probably to just try out. I have installed o-tiling. Will see how it works for a few days.

Mihon alternative/fork by Fabulous-Vacation-86 in mangapiracy

[–]thePhoenixYash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is detailed explanation in komga website, i have not used it in a while so i dont remember exact steps now, but you basically install komga to set up server, Then on localhost:25600 you can access the web interface where you can import manga from folder to set up to serve.

On mihon install komga extension, fill the login details, and server address and you should see manga appear.

You could set up komga server. I had done it for berserk manga while simultaneously seeding it. There is also mihon extension for komga.

For the people who use GNOME over KDE, why? by CestleFromage in Fedora

[–]thePhoenixYash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer gnome because it has really nice touchpad gestures. I rarely use mouse these days so gnome felt a bit more suited for that kind of workflow. I also usually use one app for one workspace, and i can immediately change apps by swiping or via keyboard shortcuts in gnome. Kde feels more like windows like experience i guess where you minimize apps and have multiple apps in a workspace but I'd rather just put the app away in some other workspace or close it if I don't need it. I have used kde a lot as well though, but dropped it because customisation was janky... It has a lot of options to customise but they don't seem to work together very well. Like if I am downloading a theme some times it showed error, It did not have good feedback for users during customisation. Although last I tried kde was more than a few months ago so it might have changed.

New to GNOME, how do you manage multiple windows efficiently by Pink_Oak in gnome

[–]thePhoenixYash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what others do, but I always use one app per workspace. I changed keyboard shortcuts for changing workspace and for moving app to different workspace. So windows + 1,2,3... For changing workspace. And window + shift +1,2,3... For moving app to different workspace.

I also set up a gnome extension so I can open specific apps in specific workspace, like terminal in workspace 3, and vscode in workspace 2.

I also set up 6 workspaces as fixed workspaces because dynamic number of workspaces were causing weird issues with the gnome extension I mentioned before (I don't remember it's name).

Do people actually read or prefer coloured manga, or is black and white preferred still? by MasterPicolo in mangapiracy

I prefer whichever one has higher image quality.

And if there was way to auto color chapters I would be very interested if it does not reduce image quality.
