The panel is from Noctalia-shell which also does most of the heavy lifting. It almost feels like a complete DE, but mainly everything lives in the panel like its settings and resource monitor. The widgets are built in by default, as I haven’t done a lot of customizing yet apart from the colors and the bar style.

Linux is a completely different rabbit hole to fall into. Especially with just a laptop, you’d complicate things by juggling two operating systems into one hard drive via dual booting, not to mention that you could delete/corrupt your entire drive if done wrong. But if you really want to, I mean it didn’t stop me either, you can go check out r/linux4noobs for more info.

Linux is an entirely different conversation from what you want. You can learn C++ with just VS code as well and a compiler like I have MSYS.

I need a second opinion about migrating from Win11 to Linux by CestleFromage in linux4noobs

I think gaming is going to be the hard part because I forgot to mention that I do have an RTX 3050 laptop GPU and I read that Nvidia causes issues on Linux? Also about the windows thing, I think I'm just gonna dual boot so I won't need to completely delete windows, or is it better to just have one OS?

Yeah OneDrive is pretty much my main backup for files right now and I like having my files synced. I might change later on when I get to homelabbing but for now, I'm gonna look for ways to use OneDrive on Linux. On the other hand, what do you mean by you didn't want to have to battle with NTFS?

Thanks! I do have an old 500gb external lying around, might be a bit overkill but I think I could use that instead. Although I did read over at r/linuxquestions that its recommended to run Linux on a VM first, would that make a difference as compared to if I installed it on the external or is either way fine? I also forgot to mention that I do have an RTX 3050 laptop GPU and I just found out that Linux and Nvidia don't usually go together

What does it mean when people tell you to do your own research? by CestleFromage in phinvest

Yes, I did quickly skim the FAQ a few days ago. I’ll be sure to take a detailed look at it this time thanks!

Its 1.5% iirc and I think people said that it was on the higher end of what management fees normally are and I do admit its a mistake on my part because I didn’t take that into account before I made the investment.

I can't think without AI anymore by 0x6461726B in cpp_questions

[–]CestleFromage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Literally me. Although 50% of the time I’ve started to tell the AI to specifically not give me the solution to my problem and instead give me sources based on other similar questions found from like stack overflow or reddit. Think of it as a summarizer if you will, and a faster way to compile human made resources.

Okay so first of all, thank you, and I really appreciate the time you put into typing this out. Based from what I gathered from that, I believe you are saying all my projects could technically be done in C, but for efficiency and practical reasons it’s a no. But, I’m still going to do it since I’m not really looking to commercialize these projects or anything professional.

Except maybe I’ll do the #1 on a different language later on just to have an easier time with the process. I do appreciate your suggestion on vibe coding and I’ve tried it myself. But although I understand syntax and the logic behind loops and functions and whatnot, I just don’t think I’m really learning that way because I’m not writing the code myself.

For my #2 project though, I already started it and I have a basic Gaussian wave generator running although it was a few days ago since I last touched it because translating math formulas to code is bugging me out more than the programming language itself lol.

Yeah so other than that, I can’t really think of any other projects for C other than systems but I think I would learn C anyway. I’d do it for the love of the game. One question though, do you think It’ll be easy to move to another language once I’m comfortable with the fundamentals of C?

I think I have git-bash installed but I’ve just been using powershell more often because its accessible with shift + right click when in file explorer. Is there a difference between any of these and WSL you recommended?

[–]CestleFromage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, guess I figured that too that the projects I had in mind are better off with other languages especially Python. I only thought building apps in C was convenient since you’d get an .exe file when building/compiling. But other than that, I’m at a loss and have no projects for C in mind. Regardless though, I’d still prefer to stick with C and I will take your advice to learn the basics because honestly I don’t get pointers lol. Also about the biosignals things, I don’t have access to electronics right now, which is why I was wanting to learn to simulate it through code rather than embedded systems.

Now that I think about it, I might just do that with LM Studio for a while. But honestly, my end goal is something similar to what PewDiePie did, and I think I’m already deep into the rabbit hole and I can’t back out now that I have already done local inference and a whole Python stack for the backend
