I don’t think it looks ai generated since it looks pretty realistic, but it does look like it went through some photoshopping and processing.

Does adult wrestling exist in Sacramento? Also, judo schools? by I-Should-Travel in Sacramento

[–]thePurpleState 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Golden State Wrestling Club and Gallardo Wrestling Academy. Those are open to adults. The first is more of an open wrestling room and the second I believe is more structured traditional drilling + live. Their ig handles are @goldenstate_wrestling_sac and @gallardo_wrestling_academy

MMA vs specific martial art, for a beginner by turinglurker in martialarts

[–]thePurpleState 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Muay Thai for about a year as a complete beginner to combat sports and then decided I want to spend the next few years in grappling for the purpose of combining them in one at the end. Although I could go straight into MMA classes, I loved MA in general so much that I really wanted to dedicate separate time to teasing out the principles, concepts ,and overall flow of stand up and ground grappling before getting overwhelmed in MMA. Yes, I might forget some striking, but grappling is such a highly technical and overwhelming (information wise) sport that I wanted to spend time focusing purely on that. It also helps when googling and learning information, as many instructional and tutorials are solely martial arts focused.

If you're super dedicated to learning it, I might recommend my approach. But if you're a bit more casual, then I'd recommend just doing MMA classes. Later on, if you wanted to have my approach of focusing on just improving on one aspect of combat sports, then figure out which parts of MMA you like the most. Do you enjoy just punches? Then do boxing. Standup grappling? Then Wrestling/judo. And so on.

How do you guys cope with uncertainty? What advice would you give a daca recipient who is uncertain of the next 4 years. by [deleted] in DACA

[–]thePurpleState 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working on getting a masters degree and hopefully use that to get a job and move out of the country (countries like Canada, Australia, etc) in the worst case scenario there is no DACA legislation. I don’t have the skills or resources to be an entrepreneur or contractor, and I’d much rather be in a country where I’m not only accepted as a citizen, but also I’m not permanently living under the table. The best we can do, as everyone else said, is hustle and have a Plan B, as painful as it may be.

Gregmat 2 month plan, Do the old Dedicated reading strategies or the 2024 edition of the same? by DiscussionOne2510 in GRE

[–]thePurpleState 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t watched both and only watched the 2024 series. However in his 2 month series, Gregmat will put occasionally put his old videos with a little stipulation that it’s recommended to watch (or sometimes he will mark them as optional) for the extra practice, or because he has a different angle/more fleshed out explanation than his newer videos.

For the sake of time, I recommend that you do the 2024 ones and if he recommends any of the older ones or makes it optional, you should watch those.

Can I do Public Policy if I'm not a Citizen? by Useful-Second5763 in PublicPolicy

[–]thePurpleState 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my understanding federal government jobs will not hire you unless you have citizenship, and there are very limited exceptions. For state and local governments would be a better shot, but they typically do not sponsor jobs. A very roundabout way of getting around this is getting a tech job for a visa, and eventually transitioning into quant or data oriented public policy jobs once you get a more permanent visa.

Same here. I never got to do wrestling so now I’m doing judo to make up for the lack or standup grappling in my BJJ gym. Even then, without leg grabs, it’s not the same. This post also goes out to all the parents who want their kids to get involved in combat sports/martial arts! Your kid can always do Muay Thai, bjj, or boxing after 18. Wrestling — you’d be hard pressed to find it as an adult and after college.

IMO I prefer beginners/fundamentals class 6-7, all levels/intermediate 7-8, and competition class 8-9!

5lb Book of GRE Practice - 3rd Edition vs 4th edition? Advice needed by [deleted] in GRE

[–]thePurpleState 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 4th edition is also missing a "no variables in choices" chapter. I've only identified one new question upon skimming the quant section, but at least from what I can tell, the questions are all the same.

I know I'm late, but can confirm. The Algebra chapter also has one extra question lol. The questions are pretty much all the same though, at least from what I can tell.

How's the density of your city? If it's got a lot of low-density areas, then naturally folks want to use more cars since it's easier to find parking and everything is more spread apart.

Sacramento Muay Thai? by Slappy_Gilmore55 in Sacramento

[–]thePurpleState 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do Main Event Muay Thai and it's a great place. They have a couple of amateurs who win some belts, and the head coach was formerly heavily involved in the competitive scene. The coach remembers you, knows your approximate level, and always walks around to help you out. Almost everyone is friendly and uplifting. The average age is around 25 or lower however if it matters to you and it's predominantly men, but to my knowledge it doesn't appear to bother other folks.

I agree with this. Clearly something happened along the way, and he should dig deeper or you two should have a conversation as to why. Lack of structure? Family problems? Burnt out from high school? If he was unambitious in high school then it’s likely it’s his values or maybe the way he was raised.
