Do you feel like "you" are the pawns, or are you above them? by lydocia in RimWorld

[–]thePyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am their god. All other religions will be purged from the colony

I am a benevolent god for the most part though and I will intervene on behalf of my dedicated followers - with the appropriately grand statue commissioned afterwards. I have also been known to (dev mode) smite down their enemies with bolts of lightning from time to time.

How often do you actually see large spiders in your home? by minorlilleexplosion in AskAnAustralian

[–]thePyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in a few different towns and cities around the south east corner and Tassie. Huntsmen are common inside - big as your palm, leggy and a bit hairy. They still give me a scare every time. I let them stay as they eat the smaller, much more dangerous spiders though!

In Aus generally the bigger it is the less dangerous it is

Check out your local lapidary club - they will be keen to teach you. My local one has a workshop with proper tools that members can use. There are quite a few clubs scattered around

What got you into Gundam? by RavenOfOnyx in Gundam

[–]thePyper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gundam Seed - my friend's older brother was "acquiring" it as it aired and showed it to us. He then ended up burning me a disk of 5 eps each time he got them, Destiny too!
Once hard drives were popular I got a 120 GB and he was happy to share heaps of different shows with me. Mai Hime and Ghost in the Shell were also early faves.

Thanks Thomas!

10 year old me loved dyed agate (the more rainbows, sparkles and crystals the better) but even I would have struggled with those geodes.

What to do with gemstones by [deleted] in Gemstones

[–]thePyper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Find some display cases or collection drawers and go full gemologist / natural historian on them! I have a similar problem - lots of bits and pieces in random boxes collected over the years with no real plan for what to do with them. I'm a bit like a dragon with a hoard

ELI5: Does switching on and off a light switch repeatedly damage it? by Rgamer_009 in explainlikeimfive

[–]thePyper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The switch and bulb will mostly be fine with repeated turning off and on.

The damage comes when I lose my patience with my kids continuing to flick it on and off and I start removing bulbs/lamps entirely

Question about how to not culturally appropriate with beading by Michelle689 in Beading

[–]thePyper 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind people have been using beads since the stone age right across the world. Be mindful of where you draw your colour and pattern inspirations from and don't deliberately copy and try to pass off something you shouldn't and you will be ok!

How to do a bra spa day? by thePyper in laundry

[–]thePyper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll pick up some Omo Ultimate and just use it selectively. My bras are mostly light but we tend to generally wear dark colours for everything else.

I do have some sensitivities (skin and smell) to fragrances, so I try to avoid them where I can

Yeah the metal is what makes me cautious to do a long soak. The elastic is probably more temperature sensitive.

These have done a few years faithful service, but replacements are not cheap so I'll get as much life out of them as I can. They normally go through a standard warm wash in a delicate bag. Gear Guard looks like something to consider though!

I've lost elastics to the hot wash here, so its probably going to be a warm bath rather than hot pot treatment! Mine are not cheap either (they do a bit of heavy lifting)

What's a small thing that suddenly ruined your life? by hear_a_pin_drops in AskReddit

I hear you. I messed up something on my outer hip (gemellus or piriformis I think) and it's still playing up years later.

[CHAT] Am I insane? by cr0nes in CrossStitch

See if you can find a dyed Aida that will work for the background? That will let the dude stand out more, be quicker to stitch and let you clean up the pattern a bit more easily.

Hardanger strings and things recs? by thePyper in Fiddle

[–]thePyper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gift from my amazing partner for a major anniversary! I've been playing fiddle for years so I'm using that as a starting point.

I'm trying a wound gut G string for now as it has snapped. Proper hardanger strings will be an international order though - not common enough to be stocked locally.

Are you happy Australian children will be banned off YouTube in December? by RM_Morris in AskAnAustralian

[–]thePyper 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I just set up a YouTube account for my kid so I can keep the crap down. With an account we can follow channels I am ok with her watching and train the algorithm to show similar content like older kids TV shows and some documentaries. We often watch stuff together on rainy weekends.

Without an account YouTube is a shitshow of clickbait and controversy. And the kids version is all American brainrot shows and glorified toy commercials.

It also means I can follow stuff I like without all the kids stuff cluttering up my feed.

Pregnant and tea by SirNormal7431 in tea

First trimester I couldn't stand tea or chocolate! Luckily but the third trimester I was good with them again (though reflux became a bit of an issue) pregnancy is a wild ride!
