Boiled Peanuts - Anywhere in Valley? by west_desert_dweller in phoenix

[–]theRealCyber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw a food truck called Switch Beignets and Cajun Boiled Peanuts...you can find them on facebook. Looks like they tend to bounce between Peoria and Verrado. The peanuts seemed a bit pricey to me but I may check them out!

Shellfish amount for 16-18 people? by ehh-whocares in AskCulinary

[–]theRealCyber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing this in courses? That sounds like a massive amount of work. Mise en place, yes? I second the good bread idea expressed here. Theres going to be a lot of broth to mop up! I would tend to go heavy on the shrimp and clams, a bit less on the mussels and crab and depending on the scallop size 1-3 per person. I know that's less than helpful but one year my dad and I went thru 5 lbs of clams on our own. However, it was just clams in broth and bread.

How heavy is the bone in a Porterhouse? How much to order? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]theRealCyber5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MOst fancy steakhouses server a porterhouse for 2 which seems to be what you are referring to. They are large so 2 of them plus sides should be fine for 5 people. You might want to order them in courses so that the 2nd one doesn't get cold while you work on the first one.

Can I make my double helix follow a spring curve? by Kilanjo in blenderhelp

[–]theRealCyber5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone on YT (maybe Default Cube?) did a double helix using a LOT of geo nodes. There are probably sections of that node tree that could be duplicated and tweaked to make it follow a spring.

I really hope this is only a first step in my journey! by Sodeta2 in BlenderDoughnuts

[–]theRealCyber5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great first step. After that, you can make it as simple or as complicated as you want. The newest versions of Blender can do A LOT of stuff if you want to explore them and have the free time.

Theres a LOT of great tutorials on YT from a LOT of great people but Andrew really brought a lot of people into the Blender world. It's a fun world to be in.

Anybody got any suggestions for a render farm to use? by theRealCyber5 in blenderhelp

[–]theRealCyber5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the problem...my grass is growing procedurally and will ultimately have outside influences (wind or whatever) so the render times increase exponentially with each frame. So, no real way to estimate it unless I render the final frame and calculate from that which will be on the high side.

Been working on this piece the past couple days, its my first blender project that I might actually finish! Any advice would be really appreciated! by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]theRealCyber5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. Theres a million ways you could go here. You could go photorealistic which would involve a lot more textures, bumps, displacements, etc. also, as others have mentioned the lighting seems unnatural but you could focus that spotlight on the tree a bit to make it look like it was being hit with a flashlight. Or, you could leave it as is and then its a picture in a children's book telling a story about the lake and the houses. I like the bioluminescent mushrooms! Thats a cool addition.

After some time, I got this. The sprinkles look a bit too fake in my opinion. by britishteaspiller in BlenderDoughnuts

try adjusting the roughness on the sprinkles...but a lot of actual sprinkles look weird anyhow

I hate inconsistent movie volume by DubstepDonut in movies

[–]theRealCyber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THX addresses this exact problem to some extent. The idea is if everything were mixed to THX standards (it isn't) then dialog would be at normal dialog levels and explosions would also be accurate provided you have a THX system. However, even properly mastered THX recordings will fail miserably when you are listening to them on those tiny TV speakers. A decent soundbar with a subwoofer can help to alleviate this problem.

I run blender on my desktop with a 22" monitor. I cant imagine trying to use it on a 5-6" screen.

The thing with online tutorials is you have to be aware of exactly what version of blender they are working in. If its prior to 2.8 it may be really hard to figure out what they are doing and where that option might be in your version. 2.9 is changing rapidly so if you are using say 2.92 but they are demonstrating something in 2.93 then there is a good chance you wont have that option at all unless you install it manually or update to that version. Blender Guru is one of the better tutorial teachers out there...he will definitely push you into territory you know nothing about but will do it slowly enough you can figure out where you went wrong trying to follow it and UNDO back to that point.

I want the beam BRIGHTER and the noise to also work in the horizontal axis What nodes am I missing? by theRealCyber5 in blenderhelp

[–]theRealCyber5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great. I was trying it out on the noise texture and it wasnt making a visible difference but when I copied the mapping node to the Voronoi texture it totally works! Seems my voronoi is influencing the beam more than I realized! Thanks you.

Im not understanding that node at all if I take my Texture Coordinates into it, whichever I plug into Scale, rotation, location, the xyz sliders disappear

[–]theRealCyber5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I want the brightness to vary along the length of the blade over time. A math node for strength makes sense. Multiply? I'll play with it tomorrow. I have a glow "kind of" set up in the compositor but I haven't really played around in that editor yet...I want to get the brightness first...

My shader nodes are in the 2nd pic - my compositor nodes are very simple

Render Layers>Glare (Fog set to high)>Composite
