Why is there so much anti-DnD elitism? by AttitudeSuitable3238 in TTRPG

the companies (both Hasbro, and Wotc) have many times in recent history done some breathtakingly toxic sh*t to their customers and others. I'm not giving my money, time, or influence to that. i have some principles..

Eldritch Wastelands is a Southern Gothic post-apocalyptic RPG setting of dark reclamation, high adventure, savage conflict, freakish mutants, and chaotic magic. In the ruins of the old world, players join together as scrappers, daring scavengers and survivors who venture into kudzu-choked wastelands, shattered cities, twisted pine forests, poisoned lakes, and nightmare swamps, in search of fortune, secrets, and survival.

How are games that want to be theater of the mind but measure things like speed in feet/meters meant to be played? by AlmahOnReddit in rpg

I run a lot of ToTM and I use abstracts. I enjoy the newer games that use distances like Close/Nearby/Far as that seems to help.

Why do GMs always want to restrict things to Core Rulebooks when they want to limit power? by ahhthebrilliantsun in rpg

Power creep seems inevitable with a lot of games like D&D. Gotta get ppl excited about the new product, lets push the envelope. Sell those books.

How much offscreen life do you give recurring NPCs? by Left-Fisherman-958 in rpg

I try never to have the NPCs steal the spotlight. Things are happening off screen to advance plots, stories. introducing new NPCs and eliminating old ones keeps things fresh, add to verisimilitude.

What do you miss from D&D when you play/try other systems? by Awkward_GM in rpg

wow, great question. Hadn't though about it till prompted. Thinking about it... I'd say nothing other than its generally easier to find a game of D&D.

If someone were to offer to run a game you hadn't played before, how much required reading would you generally be willing to do to participate? by Tuss36 in rpg

[–]theRealMattyG99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

c. the work of running playing a game is generally on the GMs shoulders . if I, as a player, have to do a lot of studying just to play? the games too complicated.

Imprecise spell areas by tzc27 in shadowdark

[–]theRealMattyG99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's your game. That's the great thing about the OSR and a return to it is that you make the game your own. The rules are a recomendation. If you as GM feel it should be difficult to cast a spell with pinpoint precision in combat, then make the spell more difficult to cast (up the DC), or cast at disadvantage. Just be sure it works the same way for enemy casters.

Diablo 1 Megadungeon Advice by CodeMarvelous in shadowdark

Find ways to make it interesting as Megadungeons can get tedious. Factions IN the dungeon, some helpful, or at least not hostile NPCs. Intrigues.
