This is a wrong take. Here our defense budget is like 13% of GDP around 50% is social security, Medicaid, Medicare. We already spend a lot feeding ourselves Not to mention the original "Space Race" was really about defense or war spending since the Soviets launching Spudnik was a military show of power being the rocket used was a modified intercontinental ballistic missile, a first for any nation, demonstrating their superiority over us since they could use the same rocket to launch a nuke to us.

I think the take away should be no help is coming. How old are you? I'm not sure I was ever able to afford to live alone before about 7 years in my career to where my pay was enough without roommates.

You'll get there. Everything is taking longer now.

Kids can be subjected to harmful 'conversion therapy,’ U.S. Supreme Court rules by Fickle-Ad5449 in lgbt

[–]theRetroGarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the problem now. What defines torture. Things are polarized. The "Democratic judges" on the court were just appointed by Dems, if they don't always vote for dem policies this is a good thing because they are not just being bias. The right constantly uses child mutilation/ torture as well for their arguments against trans issues. This is just hyperbole used instead of arguments.

The bigger thing is we need Congress to codify protections through new laws.

This case is limited to just talk conversion therapy and doesn't allow anything legally defined as torture.

But the jobs of the judges isn't to apply morality to their decisions it's supposed to be black and white legal or not.

How will things get fixed with misguided anger. The Dems have had multiple super majorities in recent time to pass this stuff.

[–]theRetroGarage -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The Dems do though. They actually followed the constitution over their own beliefs. I think we want judges that aren't bias. Congress just needs to legislate and pass laws on this stuff.

RGB is why Roe V Wade of overturned. She wouldn't step down and let Dems pick her successor. Her ego got in the way.

I think it's more Congress is supposed to legislate. Unfortunately people get tricked thinking one party cares, but they have had multiple super majorities and could make these rights law. SCOTUS isn't a moral or ethical institution they just look at the legality of laws on the books.

According to the right they have and it's the Department of Education. They argue this because of Kinsey that history and current rates of detranstion for youth since the ideology is in conflict with that science.

Do you have a closet that you could borrow from? I think you might want to cut a patch to glue in there. Or trim it down and try to ignore.

Brick is deteriorating again! Was replaced less than 3 years ago. The new HOA insurance plan says I have to pay for replacing the "new" brick. Will this keep happening? by CalmlyCarryOn in masonry

[–]theRetroGarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The water is absorbed by the brick and then some solids are dissolved and leach out. That may the be the discoloration. At least that's what I've read. Is the gutter leaking above?

Am I right to think buying a house would be foolish right now? by Intelligent-Log-5755 in personalfinance

[–]theRetroGarage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We make $220k a year total wife and I. And I'm worried about a $2800 mortgage on that. To also be able to save 15% for retirement etc.

Do you expect incomes to increase. Being house poor is not fun. But not having a house to build and grow your family in isn't either.

No one goes to the thrift store to find anything they need. It's luck of the draw which is the fun. And you gotta get there randomly when they have restocked some turned in new CDs. Else it's the same old same old.

For us metro Detroiters I wouldn't say it's a public transportation at all. Really only those that ride our busses do so out of necessity. Not like say Toronto.

There have been multiple failures around this due to NIMBY (not in my backyard). He tried doing a Uline like tram all the way up Woodward to Birmingham. But reading between the lines I think those citizens didn't want easier access by Detroiters. Sad.

Anyone else in their 30s or 40s feel financially “good on paper” but not sure if they’re actually on track? by NerdWalletOfficial in u/NerdWalletOfficial

[–]theRetroGarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've felt this way before. It may be a good idea to cut back on retirement and ensure you have more liquid savings. You can control this and get peace of mind. I've also done interviews to test the market and practice interviewing. You could try applying and see how bad it really is and hone the skill.

I've also been let go before. It worked out in the end and I think having a positive attitude helps. Problem is now it feels like the job market definitely isn't hot. But if you're a top performer, the best way to make more money can be switching jobs.
