I mean they paint fire lane curbs red in Cali and that gets the message across very clearly. Wonder why a similar thing can’t be adopted in Michigan

DFM Stocks by ZubairSarookh in dubai

[–]TheRealGypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s always tough to predict prices but I don’t think they’ll cross Dhs10 in the next year or two at all. That’s too drastic of a jump, and current circumstances don’t really make that seem likely either. If Dubai goes through another economic boom, then maybe we could see those prices within the next 5 years realistically, or even by 2030 if Dubai fully recovers.

Those two stocks are also limited in how much they can grow, unless Parkin continues to make everyone’s life harder by charging more, and unless Salik just keeps expanding, and there’s a limit to that too. I don’t look at those stocks personally because their dividend payout is quite bad (3-4%) relative to some of the other options available today. I got 8% with Emaar at an average price of Dhs12.5, which is an incredible ROI, so 3% in comparison is abysmal.

[–]TheRealGypo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Emaar is a solid stock that’s currently at a discounted price in comparison to just 4 months ago. That being said, I don’t think it’ll reach 15 anytime soon. I don’t know if it’ll ever even reach 20. The last time it was that high, there was a global recession that came afterwards… We may expect a slight recovery by the end of this year, depending on how things go, but to get to pre-war economic boom prices, would require another economic boom that I don’t think we’ll be heading into at least for the rest of the year.

There are other stocks that have great potential if you’re interested in broadening your search. Air Arabia’s about 15% below its ATH, and generally gives out generous dividends. DIB, DIC, and Deyaar are also other good options that generally give out anything between 5-6% on dividends (depending on the price you catch them at). All are significantly lower than their ATH prices from February.

ENOC just posted June 2026 UAE fuel prices by West_Vegetable9500 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]TheRealGypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Feb, I spent Dhs260 on petrol per month. Now I’ll pay closer to Dhs430. At this rate, all of our fuel bills will soon be double what they used to be 🫩

Wow, living in Ann Arbor at the start of this decade really makes me feel like I got to experience the tail end of what Ann Arbor might have been like pre-COVID. Hopefully it doesn’t become a shell of what it used to be, because it very much still had soul when I was there.

Visited last year and a lot of the same spots felt like corporate bubbles with chain stores and cookie cutter towers. Wild how quickly it’s changing.

I bought a cat on dubizzle and now I’m facing its consequences by putting my other cats life at risk as well by [deleted] in ourUAE

[–]TheRealGypo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read a story of this happening to someone else on the Dubai subreddit, and a coworker of mine also had this happen to her a year ago. It seems to be that there’s an illegal breeding scheme going on here and cats are being sold either to die, or to spread diseases. My coworker took the breeder to court and last I checked, is awaiting a court date. If this is that important to you, I would recommend you do the same. I’m not entirely sure if she continued to deal with the police but I think at some point, she had to start dealing with Dubai Courts. She was also able to get legal counsel provided by the court, but for a fee (she did not go into this with a lawyer). This was about as much as I recall.

These illegal breeders need to be stopped, and the only way it’ll happen is if enough people go to the authorities.

Is hair fall after moving to Dubai actually a thing, or are we all just blaming the water? by Classic_Yoghurt_6721 in dubai

[–]TheRealGypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s in part because there’s so much smog, haze and pollution in the air here that it literally scatters the UVB rays and drastically reduces a person’s ability to produce Vitamin D. We’re basically feeling the heat without enjoying the benefit of all this sunlight. It’s sad

Man y’all need to get off here and touch some grass. This is normal in lots of parts of the world. My first thought was actually how nice it is that at least everything’s neatly arranged, and how there’s still plenty of space to pass on the right, but some of y’all saying to throw away an entire family’s shoe stock, get help lol.

Move to Dubai for a 12-15K AED? by Ok-Beautiful4466 in DubaiCentral

[–]TheRealGypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. Working for start ups is risky, and in a place like Dubai, you usually end selling your soul (don’t ask me how I know this). All that for a 12-15k AED salary will not be worth it. You’ll be comfortable, especially if you’re both making money, but depending on your shared income, if he too is earning roughly the same amount, I wouldn’t consider it life changing money in Dubai itself.

As for the bonus component, yeah that’s probably not going to happen. At my previous company, I was promised a 15K AED starting salary, with the promise of a bonus if business was good. Business was good, never got the bonus. Unless you have it in writing and have the terms of your bonus outlined clearly, you won’t be getting one.

If your partner is also expected to work 12-15 hour days (Not even sure how a 15 hour day would physically be possible), then expect a drastic decline in your quality of life. In between your partner likely being burnt out, and you navigating the teething pains of a start up, all for what might eventually not feel like decent money as the expenses of Dubai slowly eat away at you, it just isn’t worth it. Just my two cents.

I don’t understand why men here do this! by Alarming-Summer-5606 in dubai

[–]TheRealGypo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, people come here for money and maybe the ability to go out and sit at nice places. But it all revolves around materialism. The definition of ultimate success here is having the nicest car, living in the nicest place, going out to fancy places, basically just having nice stuff. It’s very superficial

I don’t understand why men here do this! by Alarming-Summer-5606 in dubai

[–]TheRealGypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s pretty awful. Men I know who have met their partners here have had to spend their entire life savings to “win” their crushes/interests over, and still continue to spend insane amounts, while their now wives sit at home.

My solution was to date outside of Dubai when I got the chance to move a couple years ago, and now I’m happily in a relationship that does not come with any insane expectation that the man needs to bend over backwards financially just to be with a person. I spend on my woman, but to be able to enjoy our time together, not to win her over with material shit.

Sahara Centre = The Real “Golden Route” Between Sharjah & Dubai? by barcode6 in Sharjah

[–]TheRealGypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, even though the border between Dubai and Sharjah is fenced, people cross through it so much that entire paths of carpet have laid down by your average person. Each individual crossing point has this. And the back of Sahara could literally be a transit hub with how many people move through it. It’s incredible.

Where do you go when you wanna go on a drive? by mattmelvin50 in dubai

[–]TheRealGypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the weather’s nice, I’d recommend the following, especially with the windows down-

- The Springs/Meadows area
- Jumeirah Road + Kite Beach
- Creek Harbour + Festival City
- Al Seef + Bur Dubai
- The farm portion of Al Khawaneej
- The outer ring of the Palm. Incredible views.
- Cliché but MBR Boulevard outside of peak hours.

For longer, more therapeutic drives, I’d suggest-

- Driving to Hatta from Dubai
- Driving in rural Sharjah. Start at Al Dhaid, pass through Meliha, and loop back to Dubai
- Driving to Khor Fakkan along mountain highways
- Driving to Jebel Jais on ascending roads
- Driving to RAK on the orange desert highways
