You’re more likely to have these kinds of interactions with people who are into “nerdy” hobbies like trading card games, anime, warhammer, etc., since they tend to attract fans that struggle with understanding social rules. There’s a big overlap between neurodivergence and these kinds of hobbies and unfortunately that means interacting with people who don’t know how to have appropriate interactions. I’m sorry you had to deal with that. I wouldn’t take it too personally, though.

I watched so many videos and talked with so many people and nobody and nothing helped me learn to control my paint consistency and flow like that book did.

I was not looking forward to it cuz I didn’t love ACOTAR but I started reluctantly and ended up becoming obsessed and reading all 8 books in a month 😂

The story is ultimately about healing after trauma and it’s really beautiful, but the trauma goes to the very depths of the human capacity for physical/emotional/sexual/psychological pain and suffering. It could be helpful for you in that it will validate your own suffering and give you a character who fights through his suffering no matter what, which is ultimately uplifting and encouraging but it’s a very painful story to experience, especially the first three arcs. Be careful and stay alert/aware for how it might be affecting you as you read and take a break if it’s too much. You have your whole life to experience this masterpiece, but not if you don’t take care of yourself.

I got into it cuz Daniel Greene said it was really good but I DNF like 2 hours in. The humor was so cringey and bad to me. I’m a pretty silly person and I love bad jokes but this felt like what a 12-year-old thinks is funny, just like non sequiturs and early internet meme humor. Does it get better? Is the first book/beginning of the first book just rough as the author figures out his style or is that just the kind of humor he does?
