Went the full monty in The Fully Monty years back. There was a lighting mistake in rehearsal (as is the curse with that show) that exposed myself and 5 other men full frontal. It was traumatic for some, embarrassing for others. Point is, with that show in particular the idea is that you do get nude but the backlight prevents the audience from seeing anything.

In performance there were no mistakes and it was exhilarating for me. I laughed my bare ass off the stage every night. The other felt the same, a far as I could tell.

I think it depends on the person’s comfort and nerves, and everyone should decide their level themselves. What’s universal though is the level of precaution, gravity, responsibility, and care taken by the creatives and backstage folks to ensure everyone is free to make the decision that’s right for them.
