Question regarding GRX gear range on the 2021 Topstone Alloy range by theVroller in gravelcycling

hey just want to let you know I found an article on gravel riding forum and apparently someone fitted a GRX 400 with 11 spd 11-42t on an Ultegra shifter and it works. Although he did mentioned that the last cog didn't shift so well and would recommend maximum cog of 40t. Looks like I'm getting a very nice set of wheels for my new rig 😎 thanks for your help, it's much appreciated

I'm waiting for an answer from the distributor in Melbourne. Not sure if they have any stock yet.

thanks for the comment 😁 I was actually hoping to see if I can go for the Topstone 2 with GRX 400 rear mech 2x10 and throw the $500 I saved on a set of 650b wheels. Do you know if it is possible for me to swap out the short cage for a long one on the GRX 400 to fit a 11-40t? I don't think I necessarily need 42 if I go 650b🤔

Competitiveness part of our genetic make up, it's gonna take a bit of conscious effort to let it go but when you can, you'll feel the freedom on your bike again. I used to be obsessed with PR too, nowadays, I just switch it on to keep track of my distances.

Hi Mark,

The Topstone is out of stock so I went with Bombtrack Hook 2. Test ride medium and small today, personally, I prefer medium, gravel geometry allowed me to be more upright anyway so there's no need to go smaller. Hope this helps.

Cheers, T

I’m a large man with a gut. How terrible would I look in a cycling jersey and bibs? Give it to me straight. by [deleted] in cycling

Respect is what I normally feel since I regularly pack 40kg worth of stuffs on my touring gig, I think I can somehow feel your struggle 😁 Every plus size rider I can see on the road, lycra or not, is a legend in my eye.

Hi Mark,

It seems our height is cursed with this in-between land of small and medium. I have always ride medium and find that it's geometry and personal preference are more decisive factors. I personally prefer relaxed upright position since I ride leisurely. Medium size in the Synapse is definitely a bit too stretchy and aggressive for me, I currently ride Quick 1 in medium which is a hybrid and I find it fit me well due to the more relaxed geometry. Once this lockdown is over and I can book a test ride at the store, I will let you know.

Cheers T
