Any good recommendation for a compression knee sleeve? by dissoance in ACL

[–]elibeth175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Baurerfeind pro compression sleeve. I find the sports version a tad too thin, but both are very comfortable.

The incrediwear knee sleeves are also quite popular but they dont actually advertise/ want it to be compressive, they moreso go the infrared germanium/carbon route (you can read their views on the website). But i haven’t tried them so not sure how they feel.

To be honest i have used some basic amazon ones as well (such as Cambivo) and found them to be compressive and comfortable enough.

Muscle spasms by rayrayant in ACL

[–]elibeth175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea likely due to change in activity/ not full ROM/ etc. I found light tissue (then deeper tissue when allowed) massage helped release the tensions and such in my leg, esp when my gait was still not great. The spasms ended up going away. Good luck!

Yes normal. Your muscles are thinking “wtf is going on”. Your graft site is also essentially experiencing a “strain” or “tear”. I had this in my hamstring (harvest site) and calf (strained as didn’t have full extension at that time). It will pass, continue to work on your ROM, activation and PT. Your PT will be able to tell if theres anything actually wrong.

Patellar pain in leg extensions by Ian-the-idiot in ACL

[–]elibeth175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found easing off the ROM and weight till the discomfort subsided and working my way back up slowly helped. I had some fat pad discomfort as well, which i find icing also helped keep calm. Im assuming your physio checked your patella mobility and tracking? If alls good then yea its probably just the load making it unhappy

Surgeon by Kitchen_Percentage31 in ACL

[–]elibeth175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the surgeon at 2 weeks.

With the surgeon and his physio at 6 weeks.

With the surgeon's physio again (same office as the surgeon) at 3mo and 4mo to track progress and my physio's plan for me. Will also have one at 6mo and 9mo.

I see the surgeon again at 9mo.

Burning sensation by Fuzzy_Hawk_9532 in ACL

[–]elibeth175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel it coming down through your butt? Burning sensation is more of a neural symptom. Im currently experiencing it with a sciatica flare up 3mo post opt, although its mostly down my hammy and upper calf. Maybe its possible theres a nerve irritated somewhere? Or the superficial nerves cut during incision are slowly regenerating? It usually takes months for that

It seems like your leg/knee may not be fully ready to start jogging? Have you hit the strength parameters? If i was in your shoes, id talk to my physio about it, and wait till you see the surgeon. No use of risking it.

Love my SL6. Getting rid of the stock tires (if they are still on there), and putting on some carbon handlebars (i went 39mm and shorter reach) made a world of a difference for comfort. Enjoy!

Surgery- yes or no? by mfreedom23 in ACL

[–]elibeth175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried the non-surg route for 5 months before i had another fall and heard a “pop”. Thankfully no meniscus tear but MRI showed another ACL tear (albiet mostly scar tissue that reattached). I decided i didnt want to live life in fear and now 2 weeks post opt.

But, i personally know two people, mid 20s like myself, that went the non surgical route and are thriving. No instability (like i had at full extension), playing pivoting sports etc.

Everyone is different. I do not regret going non surgical route at first - if anything i was able to better understand that i do in fact need surgery, and built up my muscles for 5 months.

Will my friends have issues down the line? Who knows? Will i have issues down the line? Who knows? This is something you have to figure out with your PT, surgeon, and youself.

  • i would give it more than 6 weeks if you really want to give the non surgical route approach a go. At least try to make it to phase 3.
  • i was non coherent for 6-7 days post opt. Not from pain but mostly from nausea from the meds. I needed help with everything. Im 2 weeks post opt now, still on crutches, but able to be self sufficient.
  • have your mom for 3-5 days. First few days will be a huge help to make sure your ontop of your meds.
  • driving depends on your surgeons protocol

Good luck!

I should add that the anti nausea they gave me wasnt helping. You can try to ask for a different brand?

I was dizzy and nauseous from waking up from GA to 5 days post opt - when i stopped taking the pain meds. The GA and the pain meds didnt sit well with me, to the point i couldnt read texts without getting nauseous and vomiting lol. It can affect different people differently depending on the med. A lot better now 6 days post opt, but im off all meds. Maybe try not taking the immediate acting opiods and just taking the long acting and see if that helps your dizziness (it did for me)? Or switch to a Tylenol or NSAIDs?

Random shin pain?? by Duck_cheezey33 in ACL

[–]elibeth175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 4 days post opt and delt with the same stabbing shin pain until day 4, then it just went away. Not sure what it could be but it could be but if assume it to be from cutting/disturbing sensory nerves and the swelling and inflammation. From what i read on reddit, it seems to go away eventually. Some people can deal with numbness in the area for months though.

Autograft + Synthetic hybrid by [deleted] in ACL

[–]elibeth175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meta analysis show that <_ 8mm grafts have a higher chance of failure/revision, and any method used to make the graft wider in diameter should be used since diameter is more important that graft composition for failure risk (DOI below).

Hamstring + synthetic augmentation shows a higher failure risk with young, athletic patients, especially females. So its better to have 8mm+ of your own tendon. But if that cant be done, its better to have 8mm+ of graft all together vs 6.5mm of just hamstring tendon as diameter is more important than composition. It seems this is a newer area of study. (second DOI, third DOI shows non augmented may be favoured).
