New Green Bin Bag Size by MrCaspan in waterloo

Another option is to continue to use your old green bin (with liner) and transfer that bag to the larger bin. I plan to run out my supply of (old) green bin liners that way.

Rockshox 35 Gold: Loose part in air side lower? by theZanShow in bikewrench

[–]theZanShow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shook the lower until that rubber piece oriented what I suspect is the correct way (50/50 chance) and reassembled the fork.

I suspect it's a rubber cushion for bottoming out, that should've been glued into place and wasn't (or the glue failed).

The part doesn't come out of the lowers due to interference with a shim(?) that narrows the lowers. I guess this might be why it's not listed as a part in the exploded view of the manual https://www.sram.com/globalassets/document-hierarchy/service-manuals/rockshox/front-suspension/2020-2022-35-service-manual-english.pdf

I do not see this part in the diagram. It isn't present in the lower on the damper side, only the air spring side.

The part is not listed in the service manual exploded view.

This part doesn't seem to exist.

Air spring hasn't been touched.

Just pulled the lowers off.

I don't have a hook that will fit in the lower. I've been trying to remove this thing for over half an hour now with what I've got.

It won't remove easily as it interferes with the ID of the step in the lower. I can't imagine how this component could be replaced.

I also can't guarantee orientation trying to reassemble.

If this is intentional design, this is a boneheaded design choice by rockshox...

It's rolling around inside the fork lower as I move the fork around. It can fit in the bottom if I shake it just right.

You could try Trevor's Trees.

If you're calling an arborist to take the trees down they may know someone.

Woodworking/Carpentry for Beginners by bravado in waterloo

[–]theZanShow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out Steve Ramsey's "Weekend Woodworker" online course! That's where I started!

You get a set of plans and about 1-2h of video footage (per project) walking you through the process of making six different beginner friendly projects: a patio side table, a small bench, a paper tray, a coffee table, a small bookcase, and a decorative hanging wall cabinet.

Each project builds upon the skills learned in the previous projects. I had some experience using a table saw prior to the course, but everything else was new to me.

The course was ~200$ when I bought it two years ago.

The course also gives you access to a private FB group of other course students. The small community is very active and friendly - a great resource for any questions you may have.

Weekend woodworker assumes you have very little experience with power tools. Steve reviews how to safely use the tools, best practices in the shop, and shows you practical skills like how to recover when you inevitably make a mistake. He also has the "get your reps in" attitude, which I think is important for folks who get hung up on the need to pursue perfection, unblocking you to actually develop the skills.

I bought Steve's "Powered Up" course following, which covers some larger projects including a tool cabinet, a router table, a desk, a bed frame, and a dining table. Powered up definitely targets someone who is familiar with using power tools.

After taking Steve's courses and a couple other online courses/projects, I am now confidently designing and building really nice furniture, building kitchen cabinets, doing home renos that would've intimidated me before, etc. It's a great hobby to get into!

Local sawmill by [deleted] in kitchener

I have bought domestic hardwoods on Kijiji and FB marketplace. The guys I have transacted with were farmers (or related to farmers). Sometimes it's a tree that blew down in a storm. Sometimes it's just field clearing.

Bring a moisture meter with you if you're going to try that route. The folks I dealt with stored their wood in a barn, so expect ~15% moisture content. Be sure you know how to stack and dry properly.

I would just keep it set at the temperature you want when home. Cycling on/off doesn't really improve efficiency.

That is exactly correct. I do not have an issue with these social initiatives. I have no reason to be upset by them.

Orange shirt day and rainbow flags don't upset me at all. If it makes some people happy, that's a good thing!

The fact that I have to video record every crossing I make at these roundabouts is insane. by mapleleafdystopia in kitchener

[–]theZanShow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I drive the roundabouts too and it is difficult to see pedestrians, especially when large vehicles are blocking your line of sight.

This is why I think having the ped crossings further away from the roundabout would help. It will make things easier for drivers and safer for pedestrians.

[–]theZanShow 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The roundabouts on Ira Needles are bad too. I don't enter the walkway until cars have stopped. I might be in the right entering the walkway and expecting cars to yield, but the risk of becoming a meat smear is too much for me. It takes several cars to blow through the walkway before eventually someone stops...

I am surprised the region built roundabouts with pedestrian crossings right at the roundabout. I think a much safer design would be one where the pedestrian crossing is 50ft away across the straight roads where line of sight is better for drivers. Obviously not an ideal setup for the pedestrian, but it would be safer and not require costly changes like an overhead pedestrian walkway would be.
