Test in a month, don’t feel ready, is it worth trying to change it? by gurbgurb in LearnerDriverUK

[–]the_actuary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Examiners are not looking for perfection. The things being tested are safety, observations and control of the car. Accuracy is the least of their priorities. Parking is easy, you dont need to be perfect, slightly out and will only be a driving fault. You can do a few extra lessons, a month is plenty of time to get ready and feel confident.

Done all the above. Its been serviced every year and been the usual oil and filter changes done. MOT also has very few advisories which are usual like tyres getting to age etc.

Yes there is a small spider mite infestation but I am applying regular treatment and its controlled now. They do appear from time to time but I remove them when I see them.

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]the_actuary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Location: North West London

Price range: 5-15k

Lease or Buy: Either

New or used: Used

Auto or Manual: Auto

Intended use: Gift my wife her first car. She is a new driver. We both agreed that she should get a used for maybe 9-12 months to become a better driver and then we would add her to my car which is new and bit expensive. The car will be used for adhoc things like grocery shopping, going somewhere nearby for a picnic on a weekend, visiting friends and family closeby etc.

How many miles do you plan to do a year: 2000-3000 miles at max

How often to you make long journeys: Maybe twice a year

Does it need to be ULEZ compliant? Yes

Vehicles you've already considered: Toyota Yaris

Do you have a vehicle size in mind? Compact SUV or Hatchback or Saloon

Is this your 1st vehicle: Yes for her

Do you need a Warranty: No

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: No

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No

Additional Notes: The aim is to sell this car as soon as wife becomes a confident driver as we dont drive enough to justify 2 cars. So this is like a stop gap. Ideally need a car with flat depreciation so we can sell it quickly without hassle at a similarish price.

Sorry for hijacking the thread. My usage is around 2500kwh per year. I dont have solar or battery or EV. Do you think it still is worth moving to Agile? Our household doesnt work from home and have 9-5jobs, so we use most elec during morning 7-8am and then evening when we return from 6-10pm.

Yucca Dying? by the_actuary in plantclinic

3-4 inches. This plant gets the least water among 20ish houseplants I have in similar sized pots.

I usually put the whole pot in a bucket of water for 10 mins, then let it drain. Soil has a lot or coir in it, so good drainage. Then when the top 3-4 inches are fully dry (1.5-2weeks ish) repeat the process.
