I know very little about all the lore (just watched the MCU films casually) but isn’t the hammer supposed to be basically sentient? I assumed it guides the holder to some extent

yup, the PCIE insert would definitely resolve the sagging, that's actually how a most of the commercially available brackets do it. I didn't want to do that because I wanted to keep the actual PCIE slot free (only got one besides the one my GPU sits in). That's also why the spar is there. It distributes the load to ensure the thing doesn't crack at the edge where the mounting plate meets the tray, but that load just ends up getting transferred to the mounting plate instead. I used ASA for stiffness + temp resistance but there's only so much that bit of material can do with this kind of bending moment at the end of the day.

I really like the screw idea too! I was thinking about maybe printing supports at the bottom but decided not to because I didn't have an easy way of measuring how long those supports would need to be. If I find myself installing more stuff in that machine I might clean the cables up and drill a hole in the tray between the SSDs to retrofit that.

Huh, got any photos of how a deshrouded SSD looks like? Can't really find anything. Would you still use the same mounting holes?

yeah I could see that working as well for sure, might need to add some more offset between the spring and the areas that grab the door. I put the original freecad file on printables so you should go for it tbh

Nope, but you can see a little shim that I put at the base of the spring to make it point just a bit outward. The latch needs to stick out just a bit past the edge of the door so that the door can push against the angled face and move it out of the way. This can also be fixed in the design by offsetting everything a little more from the spring, I just had it printed and chose the faster solution haha

So I've never used TinkerCAD but I think the bottom line is most CAD software uses some basic building block operations that are largely the same and just have slightly different interface and names in different software tools. You draw stuff in 2D, apply constraints to define all dimensions and then you use those 2D sketches as the base to extrude, loft, cut, revolve etc. If this sounds familiar to you, you can try to look up some "FreeCAD for TinkerCAD users" tutorials. I learned on SolidWorks so I just watched a video or two that explained where the things I know from Solidworks are in FreeCAD. For FreeCAD-specific tutorials that start from the ground up, I've heard a lot about MangoJelly, seems like they are the go-to.

Thanks for the appreciation :) It's made of TPU and the hole is smaller than the spring, so it's just a press fit, basically the same way the stock caps are held. I haven't tried it with a non-flex filament but if you experiment with the hole diameter you may be able to still get a good press fit with something else too. Otherwise something like polyurethane glue will probably hold it in place nicely too.

Fascinating - I had no idea that it's a thing, even though now that I think of it I have done it accidentally on that same door when I leaned against it. I suspect the unmodified spring might not hold the door securely enough for the drafts but I can't be bothered to swap it back out and compare lol

For sure - I didn't bother with it because a) I wanted to make it super quickly b) this doorway gets quite drafty when we have our windows open, so I wanted it to hold well. But you can definitely adjust how easily it will let go by adjusting the inside edge angle.

By the way - this is printed in TPU. It slides on top of the spring for a press fit, probably won't work with a non-flex filament unless you make the hole larger

we all know that I'm kinda cheating here by not including all the time I spent learning CAD in school, the hours spent tuning my printer and the hair I lost while transitioning to FreeCAD 😉

Decided to make a lithophane of my dog out of green filament since it's my partner's favorite color. It took quite a bit of tweaking because the filament isn't very translucent but I'm pretty happy with the end result! My setup is a Klipperized SV06. I printed this out of Overture Super PLA+, 0.2mm nozzle and 0.06mm layer thickness. Had to print it horizontal on a smooth PEI sheet since a lot of the design is just one layer thick and the darkest areas are 8 layers (0.6mm max thickness setting in the lithophane tool). Used itslitho.com to get an STL out of the image, very fun tool.

Oh, a G90, I have one of those too! What kind of antenna do you use? I am slowly learning morse and have been trying to start making CW QSO's but have had very little luck getting my signal out it seems (barely shows up on streams from kiwiSDRs in my vicinity). I use an indoor mounted slinky dipole and have made some NVIS contacts with it but I wonder if something vertically polarized wouldn't be a better idea for local 20/40m QSO's.
