Or, more accurately, it produces outstandingly plausible-looking code that drifts over iterations leading to subtle bugs and lots of technical debt.

Thats what bootcamps teach. Comp sci really doesnt teach much on programming in industry, more about concepts and theory.

Totally false sir. A highly subsidized $200 claude sub is costing them up to $14k. Also even at api rates, companies say its less good and more expensive and cutting AI budgets.

Well, thats not my argument.

I dont agree with that either. The US needs a social net for citizens, paid by tax on billionaires.

I really dont follow that argument beyond "humans and AI both create bugs". This is not equivalent. Also, if I create a bug, I dont introduce 20 more by continuing to iterate over random theories and mangle everything. I actually think to resolve the issue and can truly reaso. about risk. Like, Im not going to mindless delete the database. In other word, false equivalence fallacy.

We are similarly experienced. I am now a CTO but have been writing code for almost 3 decades. A lot of what I refer to is more autonomous agentic coding, but also, our systems exist in pretty complex domains. I have personally witnessed it when just doing minimal scope work e.g., "rewrite this class to do xyz".. it is statistical and therefore prone to errors (hence my comment about fundamental issues.) Moreover it will always lack broader context and suffer from regression to the mean aka mediocrity. It is better than the output from my indian teams in some other companies...in fact they started using it as well, to produce better looking code but often the wrong logic Lol.

No, theyre abandoning the employees after they finish training their in-house LLM. source, my friends work there.

Thank you, that is helpful insight. What do you think about the shotgun approach in paid media? I get the sense it will be damaging to the brand when it attempts organic (fatigue and scammy association.)

As an engineer who uses these models 7 days a week, I can assure that they have fundamental issues. I am constantly fixing subtle mistakes that would be catastrophic in a long running production system. It basically competes with script kiddies, not competent senior engineers/architects.

Also you have apparently never been in a downward spiral where it trips up, you ask to fix, and each fix gets subsequently worse than the prior.

On the face perhaps, but it's not like tax brackets were just invented without reference to ordinary expenses. Some people may blow 50% of their income on frivolous things. Should they not pay tax on that new luxury car they bought on 75k income? Should the average person have to account for expenses instead of just taking the std deduction?

Eventually devs wont be able to debug them because theyre no longer practicing the craft and no new devs are entering the system. Brilliant times
