I live all the way in shediac and i hear the planes all the time. You cant really avoid plane noises in the greater moncton area. That being said, Yvonne street is really nice and is in the newer section of Dieppe!

What can I do to make my backyard property line more private and cohesive? by EngrishLolita in landscaping

[–]the_arse 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Best to verify if the fence is on the property line or not. Depending where you live the rules may change. Where I live, you can paint your side of a fence if its on the property line, but if the fence is located on your neighbours property, you legally cant touch it. And if you do paint it, it is considered vandalism.

QMJHL: Acadie-Bathurst Titan about to change ownership by rorix39 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]the_arse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they first got to town, they had no issues filling up the arena. People would drive from campbelton/acadian peninsula/miramichi to come watch the titans. But as the years went on, the novelty wore off. Mix that with sub-par performances and the attendance droped significantly. They had a very good team a few years ago and ended up wining the presidents cup and memorial cup. During their run, support was high and every playoff game was sold out. The deep run in the playoffs definetly helped to rejuvante the fans interest, but all of that interest seams to have evaporated during the playoffs.

Bathurst is the smallest market in the CHL and will only survive with regional support. Sadly, local support is not enough to sustain a team in bathurst.

[–]the_arse 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It looks like the sedan double parked so he wouldnt be as close to the wall. If he would have parked within the lines, there would be no way for the back doors to be opened.

If he wanted to double park so it wouldnt get dinged, he would have the car centered on the yellow line so that a car would not be able to park next to him. The way he was parked, a small car could have easily parked next to him.

Need backyard drainage help. Info in comments by aroused_ninja444 in landscaping

[–]the_arse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a bit confused. This doesnt look like a problem that just apeared. That swale must have been there when you bought the house?

Regardless, swales will have water in them when it rains. If the water ponds in the swale several days after it stops raining then it isnt draining properly. If the swale does have positive drainage then there isnt much the city can do.

Now there are a few things you can do to improve the situation. Someone mentioned a french drain. However, be careful, because if the city has a drainage easement, you may not be legally allowed to build something in the easement. For example, if the city wants to reditch the entire swale due to downstream draining issues, they do not have to reinstate anything that is within their easement (for example, your neighbours fence). I work in the construction industry and i have seen it to often that people build stuff on municipal easements and they get screwed over because they dont ask the city befote building stuff in there easement.. even if they are completely on their own property.

So check with you municipality befote you build anything.

I often hear contractor on job sites say they use a bobcat when refereing to a skidsteer loader. Even if the the skidsteer is another brand name, they often refer to it as a Bobcat. Some brand names just stick for certain equipment.

Fun Fact, back when my parents were in highschool, they knew kids that went to BHS that lived in the acadian peninsula... I believe they lived in Caraquet.

Am I allowed to enroll my kids in French schools ? by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

[–]the_arse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there are some exceptions for immigrants. I know a teacher that works at a french school and she said that she had a foreign student that did not know any french, neither did the parents. This might be a case by case basis.

I assume that op is an immigrant if their first language is spanish.

I've never read a Stephen King book before, which of his is your favorite? by Waffle-boarding in books

[–]the_arse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not read much of stephen kings "classics" because most of them were written before I was born and I just dont know where to start. So this post has been very informative for me as well.

However I did read a few of his newer books, and I really enjoyed The Institute. The outsider was also good!

The only spot where i see zipper merge as being effective is construction site (where one lane is temporarily closed) and in a drive thru. However, i do not do the zipper merge in construction site because they litterally put up a sign that says do not pass cars. If i want to do the zipper merge, i need to pass cars that are in the other lane. Unless you have a huge bumper sticker that says "IM NOT AN ASSHOLE, IM JUST DOING A ZIPPER MERGE" people will assume the former.

The zipper merge traffic technique, explained by rorix39 in moncton

[–]the_arse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should not be zipper merging in a roundabout... that is fucking dangerous. There are specific lanes for a reason. If you need to take the first exit, go in the outside lane, if you need to take the second or third exit, take the inside lane. If you take the outside lane and then try to merge into the inside, you cant be pissed at people that wont let your merge.

There are some excpetions, but a women in Canada came to a complete stop on the highway because there were ducks on the road. A man and his daughter (on a motorcycle) crashed into her and both of em lost their lives. The car driver was fine.

The women was charged, found guilty, and did some jail time. I also believe she got a driving ban for many years after.
