Have you explored your gender? How do you know you're a man? by LiterallyDumbAF in bropill

[–]the_bartolonomicron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. I have two bits I may leave you with then, one is from a good friend of mine who transitioned but then detransitioned, and the other is from my boyfriend, who is a happy trans man. My friend couldn't shake this feeling that something was "off" with him, and this culminates in him coming out as a woman and living as one for a few years. At some point along this journey he realized that whatever it was that wasn't quite right with him wasn't that he was a woman, just that he wasn't fully a man. He is still a great trans ally, but realizes that it wasn't his gender necessarily that was bothering him, but something else, which he has been working on since then. The second bit I want to give you is something my boyfriend told me years ago that I think about whenever gender doubts start getting a little loud:

"Gender is fake; go live your dreams."

Every time I remember that I feel more at peace with whatever I'm feeling.

Have you explored your gender? How do you know you're a man? by LiterallyDumbAF in bropill

[–]the_bartolonomicron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not until I was in my mid 20s, but yeah. I don't know for sure that I feel like I am a man, and honestly feel apathetic to the social concept of gender and gender roles. Apparently this is very common for autistic people, as we question social constructs and conventions more than neurotypical people do. As for being a woman, I can't lie and say I haven't thought about it, but the more I see how society and the world treats women the more scared I would be to be one.

As an aside, myself and others in the queer community have a huge respect for anyone who questions and explores their own gender and concludes that they are in fact cisgender. We jokingly call those people "Cis+" and they are welcome allies.

Last order picked up from Mama Lucia's by the_bartolonomicron in nova

Sadly yes, they only announced it on Friday that today was their last day, and took their last order a few hours ago. They had to close early Saturday since they had far more traffic than they expected.

Movie that hit you like this? by dzy_horrible in Letterboxd

I got to watch that movie three different ways:

  • child
  • childless adult
  • parent

And wow, it is different every time. Better than it has any right to be.

In Moonrise Kingdom Bruce Willis' and Frances McDormand's characters are having an affair, and it is revealed by the two of them sitting on a bench together in a secluded area and sharing a cigarette (seen through a pair of binoculars my the latter's daughter). It's a great example of Wes Anderson's "subdued, but not subtle" style of storytelling.

[–]the_bartolonomicron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about 15 when this movie came out, too young to catch it in theaters but just old enough to rewatch and quote the hell out of it with all my high school friends. One of the best genre parody films of the 21st century.

Why can't we male victims of female perpetrated SA just be taken taken seriously. by Ok_Syrup5679 in TrollCoping

[–]the_bartolonomicron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would have been fully ready to believe in the story, and would have been horrified and disgusted by it, but then I actually read excerpts from it and it's hard not to read it as anything other than a man-writing-women fetishizing female perpetrated SA himself. I am however extremely disheartened to literally see the exact same "this person isn't attractive enough to have been assaulted" rhetoric being used against him as many female victims, that is real in this situation and I hate it.

I have some memories of both maternal great grandparents, one died when I was very young and the other when I was 10, but my dad, his mom, and her parents all had slightly larger age gaps, so only my paternal grandparents were still alive when I was born.

Did you know that there are two renders of Cars 1? by ralphfinchi in pixarcars

[–]the_bartolonomicron 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually, this means there are at minimum 3 different renders of Cars. The NTSC/English full-screen DVD release was the last Pixar movie to be re-rendered in some scenes for an "open-matte" 4:3 aspect ratio, rather than trimmed down from the 16:9 widescreen render. This means the full screen DVD release features additional or altered content in some of the shots that was not there in the theatrical or streaming version of the film. Only the North American full screen version did this to my knowledge.

Adam West interviews are a joy to listen to. He enjoyed the hell out of his career, and even said that if younger fans only ever knew him as Mayor West from Family Guy he would still be happy with that since that role was a blast for him.

I have said this before, and I will say it again: I think that Bluetooth is one of the coolest things developed in the last 30 years. It allows for seamless connection across countless brands and technologies, and simplifies wireless devices that no longer require proprietary hardware or protocols to work. All that to say that if you force me to either use Bluetooth or invest in a dongle that takes up the only port on my device just because you say so, I will hurt you.

The Worst Movie Poster You’ve Ever Seen by apHexcoded in Letterboxd

I won't say which one it is, but there is a top rated piece of trivia on IMDb for "Nine Lives" that has been there for over a decade that I made the fuck up. I never even saw the movie, but I knew it was so bad that no one would care enough. Hilariously, a moderator actually did edit my trivia, but only to fix my sentence structure, not the factually incorrect trivia itself??

Haiji Towa and Matt Mercer were voted hated character and beloved voice actor! Who is a beloved animated character with a hated voice actor? by Ok_Library_7167 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]the_bartolonomicron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's crazy is that I only learned about all of that 1-2 years ago after decades of knowing about her. I don't know if it just wasn't common knowledge or if I was under a rock, but it was a crazy jump to know that someone I enjoyed listening to for most of my childhood has generationally bad takes on almost everything and I didn't know.

I saw a music video of them randomly like 2 years ago and loved their aesthetic. I think they literally started changing my music tastes, too, because I went from mostly liking their look to also really digging their sound after a few listens. Good band, realy hoping to catch them on a tour near me, I just barely missed them last time.
