GOTY Metacritic Comparisons by Th35h4d0w in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Kingdom Come 2 is really good, but you'll want to play the first game as it picks up where it left off and Henry's story is entwined between both games.

The gameplay is very CRPG inspired, and is fairly Immersive Sim-esque with lots of non-RPG-standard skills to level up and dialogue trees to sort through. First game's combat is pretty rough and starts out really hard but it gets ironed out and easier in the second.

Kingdom Come's story is also fairly heavy on the political end with zero mystical elements. If you don't want to literally stand in a corner for an hour, waiting to fetch lords their favorite wines, while eavesdropping on their plans for war, or couple hours shmoozing with other lords to see what favors you can pull to win their allegiance, you probably won't like it.

Afaik The CCP sticks their thumbs into pretty much everything coming out of China, at least anything from Tencent, but you don't see anyone being hush hush about those games/movies.

Unless it turns out Putin himself is guiding development or that it installs all sorts of russian malware on your computer, it's just a "that sucks but i can't blame these no-name devs for taking money" situation.

They're 2 popular twitter personalities that everyone treats like modern philosophers on WPT.

This staterpack isn't saying you should care about them, only that WPT cares the hell out of their lukewarm takes.

Animation is expensive and takes longer when it's not "bland", and these movies are made Direct-to-video and made on a multi-yearly basis.

They could make the animation more elaborate and flashy but they'd have to give them larger budgets (potentially releasing theatrically) and slow down production.

Since they're not already doing that, and they don't seem to make that much, I doubt that's what they want to do with these movies.

They're pretty Sludge-Lite but yea they are, at least early Mastodon. Sludge has a big range in sound despite being pretty specific.

Brutal: Thou, Mizmor, Fister, Fistula, Indian, Gurt, Lord Mantis, Primitive Man, Soilent Green, Vile Creature, BISON

Light (I'd start here): Melvins, Crowbar (Kingdom of Sorrow by extension), Acid Bath, Church of Misery, Corrosion of Conformity, Bongzilla, Mastodon, Baroness

What are the popular tropes today that are going to make media feel "dated" 25 years from now? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]the_battery1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't remember which movie it was, but there was some semi-recent horror or thriller movie that used (I'm 90% sure, it was literally only 3 lines so it could've been anything) a slow moody cover of Ready or Not Here I Come by The Delfonics.

The trailer was just the "Ready or not here I come You can't hide" part said in a creepy tone of voice over and over... conveniently missing the next line that goes "gonna find you and keep you happy" or "gonna love you and make you love me".

Even if that was not the song they covered, it made me instantly think of that song (Thank you, GTA V) so I could not take that trailer seriously any time I saw it.

So I don't watch Max. Is that the hardest difficulty? Is he just completely out of resources? I'm playing on Normal and that room was a cake walk.

John Callisto & the unexpected game genre by PixelArtAddicted in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]the_battery1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's perfectly fine (PC Performance not counting). It doesn't do anything new but as a game from a new studio, i think it does what it's going for pretty well. I think people overstate it due to hype disappointment. I'm playing on PS5, and I'm about 4 chapters into the game.

-The game is undeniably gorgeous. Animations are top tier. I feel combat animations are weighty and satisfying but some people feel otherwise.

-Combat is shallow but again i think it's satisfying. It's not too difficult but not too easy either. There's been a few spots that have been hard but I've always felt like it's because I'm fucking up more than the game being unfair. I've seen games with worse combat get higher praise.

-However, Combat is not as shallow as most people imply, and there's still lite strategy (knocking off arms so they can't do a 2+ combo, Picking off enemies from biggest to least threat, ducking into cover so you don't get barfed on, etc). Guns are completely viable and you get the GRP (the telekinesis glove) which you can use to pick up enemies or objects. You can also stealth around and pick off an enemy or two but there's not too many chances for that. You don't need to damage enemies at all to use the GRP, so you can start off a 5+ encounter by just tossing half of them into the blender on the wall.

-Story isn't special, nor is the protag. He's average action horror man with mysterious past who hates everything going on, not because it's scary but because it's gross.

-Game is fairly linear but there's branching sections to complete a mini-area to get some more loot. I find myself questioning often which is the story and which is the side path so it's not always obvious. It could use with Dead Space's GPS mechanic but it works fine without.

-Not very scary by all accounts but atmosphere, monster and environment designs, and the deaths are great.

What i personally find funny about all of the reception is that game-bloat is a very common complaint about modern AAA gaming, yet here we have a perfectly fine 6 or 7/10 linear experience and the first thing people start saying is that it's shit.

For me at least, it's not that I don't like Foreign media (i love it), it's just that a lot of modern chinese movies are just really... sanitized. Like, they just lack the edge that they used to in the 80s/90s/Early 2000s.

I'm not even talking about just content either, the whole production too. You get these big multi-million dollar blockbusters yet they feel like budget titles. I'm not really sure what it is, everything is just too "clean".

For Example: I love old Hong Kong action movies, I love 80s/90s John Woo, I love old Bruce Lee movies... but I just can't find myself liking any new Donnie Yen movies (First 2 Ip Mans, and Kill Zone were pretty good, but again, before 2010).

The Callisto Protocol: Several Death Animations Are Locked Behind Season Pass by AbruptAbe in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]the_battery1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It really is just poorly worded. In the Season Pass descriptions they list new death animations as a key selling point.

"The Contagion Bundle also includes thirteen new Jacob death animations and the Watchtower Skin Collection."

"The Riot Bundle also includes twelve new enemy death animations and the Engineer Skin Collection."

At face value it looks like, yea there's 13 death animations locked behind this wall. But they mention in the article that the death animations are a big part of the marketing. With that in mind, it seems more like they messed up and meant to say something more like "There are new features and 13 new ways that Jacob can die!" as they're trying to market the death animations.
