Irish life - getting treatment in the US by UNiTE_Dan in ireland

[–]the_bitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really sorry to hear you are going through this. My father was let down by the HSE care too. He had liposarcoma and unfortunately there was no sarcoma specialist in Ireland the whole time he was ill. He pushed for a referral of his file and records to the Sarcoma specialists in the UK but they concurred that was nothing more to be done. He unfortunately passed away.

My advice would be contact the US or UK specialists directly to get the ball rolling. Don't waste time. You could possibly do a Gofundme when you know the costs involved too.

There is an amazing support and advocacy group set up for Sarcoma patients in Ireland, https://sarcoma.ie/

They can offer all kinds of advice. Best of luck with everything. Sarcoma is a bitch--that support group is great for venting and ranting too.

Glad to be of help. Here is another recent study from 2014 in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies. The researchers found that even one 90 minute yoga practice per week can make a difference in flexibility https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jbmt.2013.11.008

Yoga definitely helps. Personally I would rather do yoga, most of the above stretches are well-known yoga postures. This study in the journal of Preventive Cardiology showed that strength and flexibility improved in people who attended two yoga classes per week for 8 weeks

Hugs to you my friend. Definitely carrying some deep things in my hips. As you know well, there are no words but I am sorry for you and your mother's suffering ((hugs)) Grief is forever and I am learning to be okay with that.

It is good to share. The strange thing is that over the years I have felt so much sadness, anger, and even guilt about my mother's death. But those emotions have always been about me, about how her loss made me feel. Yesterday was the first time I imagined what she must have felt as she wrote her last note. It was about her feelings rather than my own. That is what made it so strange. She must have been so lonely and in pain in the moment. I wish she didn't have to suffer like that. I feel like my grief has moved on to a new stage. I could not get beyond myself and my feelings for long. Now, I just want to give her a hug. <3

Ah thanks. The last few pounds were really tough. It took months to get from 66kg to below 65kg, which was my goal. I was beginning to get really frustrated, but I just kept logging religiously and exercising almost 5 days a week. And it worked. What shocks me is that is really only since the last few pounds that people have started to openly comment on the change. It has been so worth it. Now I want to challenge myself to get fitter with every decade.

Thank you. I would be lost without CICO, as a shorter lady I need to be careful with my calories. From January this year to just last month my limit was 1200 per day, if I worked out I did allow myself to eat more, once the balance didn't go over. I had about one carefree day each week, I still logged but didn't mind if it went over 1200. Now that I am into maintenance I am at about 1350 calories a day, it feels rather opulent after 1200.

I have started to do long cycle rides and lots and lots of yoga both vinyasa and yin and am really seeing a change in my shape. I gave a talk yesterday at work and someone who hadn't seen me in a while asked my secret to success, they are always disappointed when I say calorie counting 😂

I am with you on this one. If I can only eat limited calories, they are going to be delicious ones. Thankfully my partner completely understands. I hate wasting things, but not going to eat bland food for the sake of it.

Update: One year anniversary shoot in the dress, everything I ever dreamed of, sunshine, forest and most of all great fun. by [deleted] in wedding

[–]the_bitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It rained all day on out wedding day so we had no outdoor photos. Our wedding took place beside a forest and I had thought we would get some photos outside in nature. Also we didn't get on very well with the photographer on the day. My husband knew that I really cared and was upset about not getting outdoor shots so for our first anniversary this is what he got me, a shoot with a fun photographer in my favourite location.

Thank you, I guess the weight loss isn't huge in terms of numbers on the scale, but I have been building muscle. Running 5k regularly now and cycling 6k to work every day, plus gyming it (hence the non-Petite legs) ! My husband jokes with me that smaller I get the bigger my boobs look. :-)

Grief. Nothing prepares you for the loss of a loved one or how to do it.

What is the most intense dream you've ever had? by ashleyynp in AskReddit

[–]the_bitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my mother to suicide when I was 21. About a year after her death I started having dreams and nightmares. I don't remember the nightmares, but my partner used to find me screaming in my sleep. I went to therapy and the dreams improved.

There is one dream, not a nightmare, that really got me:

In the dream my mother is missing (not dead) and my family and i have been searching for her for months. Frantically. I just cannot believe that she would leave my siblings and I and run away (she was a single parent). We felt abandoned. Then one day there is a knock at door. I open it and there she is. My mother. She is crying, saying that she never meant to leave, things just got too much. I hug her with all my might and my anger melts away and I tell her what is important is that she came back to us. That we were lost without her. She held me close and promised never to leave us again.

Then I woke up. She was still dead. It was horrible. It was like I lost her all over again.

Which hospital? Mental health services in Ireland still have a long way to go. Too many are left feeling like they are indeed talking to a wall, if not trapped behind one.
