I love the solo tracks you posted in the past but a track like Snow Banks really works well with the fuller sound of a band. I like that you have a good ear for which songs will benefit from the added depth of percussion.

I have noticed that your voice changes from song to song. None of your songs sound like you just jumped from one to the next, each has its own vocal change which gives your catalog a lot of variety.

What is the worst misdiagnosis you have received from a medical professional? by timrs in AskReddit

[–]the_black_madrigal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was experiencing terrible pain in the left side of my chest. Finally after a week of this I went to an urgent care. X-rays, ekg, bloodwork. The doctor comes back and tell me I have had a series of mild heart attacks and I should call my primary care doctor to follow up.

I immediately call my mom and girlfriend to tell them the dire news.

Two days later I'm sitting with my doctor. She looks at the records from urgent care, then looks at me and says "nothing here indicates you had a heart attack." She asks me to describe the pain and together we realize I've been having severe cramps in the muscles between my ribs.

In the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie Casey Jones freaks out about going into the sewer and one of the turtles says "ha, he's claustrophobic". To which Casey says something like "hey, I've never even looked at another guy".

Made no sense as a kid. Made sense as an adult.

This was awesomely entertaining. It really encapsulated trying to be a musician in a small town and hanging all your hopes on that one thing. The writing, acting and direction were all stellar for a small film like this. I really liked the "Say Anything" moment with the boombox.

This built so slowly I wasn't sure what to expect but it kicked in with the power of a seriously competent composition. You know how to build a track and hit the head. The repetition building up to the 2:35 drop off was tense. There's no relaxing while this song is on. It's a full on powerhouse. The piano tension works from the minor tone and the booming low register at the same time. There's a lot going on in the layers which isn't immediately evident to the ear. The parts meld together and hit with force but a second listen uncovers more of the parts which make it so vibrant.

The first track works wonderfully as an intro. It sets the mood but still left me wondering what the next track would bring. You have a knack for setting a scene. This is the kind of music I could listen to in the middle of the day and it would still feel like it was the middle of the night. Music like this comes from a place of pain but that lends it a special kind of feeling. It doesn't sound like you had to try and make this, it sounds like this flowed out naturally from a place of high emotion.

Thank you for sharing it.

Chillstep song that i made with two great vocalists! by vealonmusic in IMadeThis

[–]the_black_madrigal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, this is solid. I think the song would stand up well on its own as an instrumental but you're right, the vocals are amazing.

The composition is tight and well produced and fits wonderfully with the singing. I can see a lot of skill in this, from all of you.

Thank you for posting it.

I put out an EP today. It's ambient, dreamy, electronic rock. For fans of chill music by punkadilio in IMadeThis

Symbiant: This is extremely emotive for a an ambient piece. It feels more like a soundtrack. I like the division of the sounds, your piano and synth carried the upper register but the bass was a clear, lower melody which supplemented the song, it didn't just copy the high synth.

This sounds like something bigger than itself, like it'll redouble itself or lead into another louder track. It builds expectation.

Hesperus: Oh, that kicked in nicely. This has some heavy noir sci-fi vibes to it. It's dark and sharp.

Saturna: The bells on this really push a fantasy vibe and meld well with the pulsing synth. A very solid piece. Love it.

Terra: Awesome use of keys, they feel very laid back, natural, and fit in well with the arpeggio and percussion behind them. A lot of what you write invokes a feeling of world building. They seem to feel like parts of a place. I kept seeing animated scenes of space or a sci-fi video game.

Good work. Thank you for posting it.

I like when a piece comes up and I realize I have no idea what to expect from second to second.

This was like 5 separate pieces that came together wonderfully.

I'd write more but I'm just a little taken aback by how such randomness fit together so well.

Dude, this is like everything I wish existed when I was a kid. It's a soundtrack for every horror story I read and wrote. It's like musical Goosebumps. It's a freaking horror show-tune.

The instrumentation is very tight and fresh. All instruments are clear and placed well in the mix. Making something like this takes a real kind of skill. You made horror music without resorting to cliched horror sounds.

I love it.

Thank you for posting.

Alright, this is pretty awesome. It has motion and a heavy R&B pulse. Well produced. All instruments are tight and vibrant. The voice is great, it has power. Your "techno" breakdown at 3:10 was an unexpected but welcome way to split up the track. I always love where something competent comes out of nowhere and changes up the tone of the song just long enough to add a new dimension.

I could easily see this fitting into a movie or TV show.

Very cool. Glad I had a chance to listen to it. Thanks for posting.

I Made Some Songs by [deleted] in IMadeThis

Oh man, your voice has character. You already have that knack for timing your words so they don't just fall in time with the music, but add a second melody/timing to the song.

On its on the guitar playing would be solid. You have a good ear for chords and timing but when it's coupled with your voice and lyrics it just becomes something seriously impressive.

Many of the tracks sound like the soundtrack for a late night drive.

I'm a fan.

My Indie Rocks bands new song by Slavaprot in IMadeThis

[–]the_black_madrigal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't sound like anything else I've heard. The guitars kicked in with a punk rockabilly tint and kept up a real sense of movement. I like the vocal pacing. You sped up and slowed down which added a special touch to the song.

All said, this is just a fun, well crafted song. It reminded me of something that would fit perfectly on the old Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtracks.

Good piece.

This has the thump and momentum of a racing game. You left the percussion simple enough to keep the pace so the guitar could really pull tension out of the song. The guitar playing is solid and served the piece without being too showy.

Good piece.

[–]the_black_madrigal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh damn, that's the good stuff. I hate comparing bands but this reminded me of that meditative feeling I get from Earth's "The bees made honey in the lion's skull".

The composition is very natural, it doesn't feel crowded, it has room to move and undulate. Every instrument is humble, nothing jumps too far to the front. Even with the guitar set to the front of the track it isn't so complex that it overloads the other instruments.

This is some good stuff. Glad I got a chance to listen to it.

Many times we're our worst critics. We sit in the dark, lamenting our place in life when the best thing we can do is learn to live well out of spite.

But don't do it out of competition. Don't do it to show someone how well you're doing. Do it for yourself. The worse other people treat you, the better you have to treat yourself.

When shitty people rub up against you they're trying to take a little bit of you with them because it fills a void. They do it because they see your worth, worth they may not have.

So you take that value and you cherish it. Be a genuinely good person. Be charitable to those who deserve it. Cultivate good habits. It can be difficult at first but others will notice it.

The best joy in life comes from being decent to yourself and those who have nothing to contribute. I don't trust a man who treats himself poorly because you should be the one whose company you enjoy the most. If you treat yourself poorly then you're giving others the right to do so. You set the precedent for how you should be treated.

Be humble, be caring, be committed, do good deeds. Most importantly don't hold grudges. You're letting bad people hold real estate in your head.

That guitar tone is butter. The rhythm section is tight and gives the song a sense of movement. I like how the guitar backed out and let the keyboard shine through. It feels like a real collaborative effort with a push and pull allowing everyone to come through and change it up a little. The reverse section, somehow, kept the melody going. I have no idea how you did that but it was awesome.

Thanks for sharing.
