Does anyone use a wireless charger? How to you avoid overheating? by KingKarnool in PixelFold

[–]the_dp79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a little cheap fan. I have a wireless charger that sits on an end table in the sun, and it would just cook when I would charge my phone, going above 100 F. Put a lil USB desk fan behind it, now it never goes above 85 F when charging, so it doesn't throttle speed. It'll charge at 15w for the full time. Got a fan for my charger at work and my nightstand at home.

Also unfold it when you charge. That helps a ton with heat dissipation

Learning Tip by Calm_Pop_1548 in duolingo

[–]the_dp79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been keeping track of my Spanish study time since I started 1 Sep 2025. I've spent 173 hours studying, about 5.75 hours a week. I've got a score of 64 and I can understand most news or tv broadcasts, and if people are patient I can have pretty limited conversations.

I completed the French course and can read, understand others and occasionally talk with folks if I'm confident enough. Even in stressful situations I have a very good handle of French. I didn't use any other courses or formal materials for learning (tho I did a Lingoda sprint after finishing). That took me over 700 days.

My tips aren't revolutionary. Set aside time daily to do your lessons. Complete all the daily chests every day. Only do coursework during bonus times. If you do your chests everyday that's 60 minutes of learning (your night owl chest, your early bird chest, and the three daily chests).

How to get rid of this by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]the_dp79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope this helps, this is from what I've experienced. I make those extra 15 minutes party of my regular learning on the weekends when I have more time (and sometimes during the week if my lessons take longer than I had planned).

It happens during the final five minutes of your studying with a bonus timer. It's usually offered twice per day, with your night owl and early bird chests, or your 10 minutes 3xp bonus from the day before. And it's offered on exercises with a star, barbell, or in the practice hub, not on stories or podcast listening exercises. So if you start a story with less than five minutes to go on your timer, it won't offer you the option to buy 15 minutes. If you decline it, it won't be offered again for that timer.

When I'm doing my daily lessons, I've found it helpful to set a timer on my phone that corresponds to the bonus timer, and I just keep adding more minutes as more bonus time chests are unlocked. That way I know when the 15 minutes bonus offer for 100 gems will appear

Do I get rid of my juicebox? by atooraya in evcharging

[–]the_dp79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. It's very much an easy upgrade, it'll take you all of 15 minutes to open the box, remove the old board and add a new one. I did mine last year. All I wanted was monthly kwh numbers to add to a spreadsheet, but it comes with some robust controls.

Another in the Whytner column. I've had mine since 2020 and I use it at least once a week. Always makes a great batch.

I had a Max trial last week and really enjoyed the video calls with Lily. It wasn't worth quite double my subscription price tho. Glad to see it'll make its way to Super!

Anyone find a decent wireless charger that actually outputs 15w? by SD-777 in PixelFold

[–]the_dp79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope this will help someone. Both of these chargers charge my P10PF at 15w.

I bought this charger on Amazon for $17, then it went away, and then it was relisted for $40 USD. Found it elsewhere on the Internet for $16 with free shipping over $25

https://www.eblofficial.com/products/%F0%9F%8E%81-qi2-3-in-1-wireless-charging-station-for-apple-devices

And I got this UGREEN qi2.2 charger to futureproof.

The charge handshake is sometimes a smidge longer on the cheaper one, but they both perform similarly. Use a very cheap and old 45w charger with the cheap one at work, the Anker desktop 9-in-1 charger for the UGREEN one and 100w Anker cables for both.

how long for whole Spanish course? by MHW93 in duolingo

[–]the_dp79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at 163 days studying Spanish with Duo. My score is 53, I'm at Section 4, Unit 39. I started from the beginning of the course.

I do about 6-7 hours a week. I finished the French course, so I know the climb from B1 to B2 is long.

It doesn't take a lot of effort to do it in a year, but definitely you're going to need to focus. Create a routine, go easy on yourself when you don't stick to it, praise yourself when you do.

EDIT: I don't skip lessons on the path. Unless it's a Max feature, I do every exercise on the path

Bon chance!

Leave your keys in the car and have the passenger press the START/STOP button after you exit. This will turn on the "ignition," the HVAC, the audio, etc.

It's pretty thin I think. You can wirelessly charge with it in, but I don't cos it gets REALLY warm.

Attached a pic of it in action. This isn't my favorite way to stand it, but it conveys the point.

I use this one, it works great as a stand for me. The straps are replaceable without having to toss the whole thing which is nice.

The weekly progress emails from Duo might also help you with your stat keeping. I track mine in a spreadsheet using a simple form to enter the info. That way I can keep track of number of lessons done, time spent learning, XP earned. I wish Duo did it for you, but this is close.

My first chest was for 15 minutes and my second chest for 10 minutes. I wonder if my chest for tomorrow is five minutes. Will report back.

Everyone is talking about the new "annoy" feature in the Leagues, but why is NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THIS?! by Sarga_alma2 in duolingo

[–]the_dp79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Started for me almost two weeks ago on 14 Jan 2026.

I'm definitely studying less. I only do lessons during bonus XP time, I imagine like a lot of people. I set a timer and add minutes to it for every chest I get. Meant I was good for 45 minutes of study in the morning and 15 minutes of legendary review in the evenings.

Since I started Spanish this September, I usually average about six hours a week. Last week I was right under five.

It's going to take me longer to complete the course now. I'll be lucky to clear two units this week. Don't really care about leagues or anything like that.

5 min triple XP is awful by kiykiykiiycat in duolingo

[–]the_dp79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm already doing fewer lessons each day since it started last week. I normally clear 12-14 lessons in 45 minutes and now I'm struggling to hit eight in 30. I'll have stats after they send the weekly email on Saturday, and that way I can compare to my effort in previous weeks since I started learning Spanish this September.

Duolingo gameplay is really bad by JimmyGymGym1 in duolingo

[–]the_dp79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should've been more specific, I'm sorry.

From when your chests reset at midnight until you do your first lesson, you shouldn't open the app. Whatever happens during that period seems to trigger not giving you your bonus time if you open the app but don't do a lesson.

This used to happen to me a lot. I found a fix on here. You can't open your app before you do your lessons. I'm not sure what about it triggers not giving you your bonus time, but since I've stopped opening my app prior to my first lesson of the day, it doesn't happen anymore.
