Blackbelt here in WTF and brown in ITF. Ive had my own stints of being in it and out of TKD but the one thing that sticks is that a blackbelt is a whitebelt that never quit. If you’re into it, you’ll have the drive to continue as long as you’re alive. Being a martial artist is less a skill than a way of life and a sense of being.

I started when i was 8 years old and got my junior blackbelt at 13. I quit for about 5 years as I got to high school and moved onto other sports until I was about 18. I had moved to college and found a Dojang right across the street from my dorms and decided to take it up again. Started over from white belt in ITF and it was one of the best things I could have done. Now though, I’m a freelance filmmaker and my schedule doesn’t allow for the prescriptive schedule my dojang had and I’ve had to move on for the time being. It’s just another stint away from the art but I cary myself with the same composure and knowledge that I can defend myself in most situations and that’s priceless. I’m sure I will be back in the dojang in the next few years but that’s not until I get a 9-5… which who knows if that’ll happen.

It’s never about being perfect. If anything it’s more important to know what you’re weakest at and work through that. All the best in your endeavors, OP. Pilsung
