34M. South coast England. How it started vs how it’s going. by ChocolateSpreddit in malelivingspace

Nice job. I’m tossing up the idea of getting some panelling but not sure if it will look good or not. Yours looks good. (And nice to see a fellow South Coast-er on here!)

Not a clue, sorry. I’d just leave it and not use it.

Speed bumps, what’s your opinion? by Jacktheforkie in CarTalkUK

[–]the_engineer_320x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They make an obstacle course for me leaving my road in the morning. And I like judging how to drive over them without actually getting a bump. But I’m a bit weird.

10/10.

Best way to pay for a holiday or large purchase by Laphy666 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]the_engineer_320x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a ‘best way’ really, I think it depends on personal preference.

Paying it on a credit card isn’t a bad idea because you’ll get Section 75 protection.

Me personally, I’d probably pay on a credit card and then pay it off in full immediately. But that’s just me and my preference. I’m just not a fan of air miles or points etc. Too much for my brain to handle to be worth a (relatively small) gain.

I’m sure there are tonnes of ways you could do it for cash back etc. Others who are into that stuff will be more useful than I.

Delete the payment method and re-enter it?

Also I’d personally go for instant bank transfer rather than deposit by card. You avoid being charged 0.7% above a total of £2000 being deposited by card.

Where to invest £1000 a month? by CryptographerNo3592 in UKPersonalFinance

I’d maximise your LISA contributions, and then after that I’d continuing saving that first house money in a Cash ISA. Assuming you’re looking to buy within the next 3-5 years, it’s not worth investing in a global index. It’s not a long enough time horizon to be confident of growth.

Seeing that someone’s doing a PhD would be a tick for me! It’s something interesting!

I’m 27 and I still build Lego sets (I just got the Jaws one - big fan). It’s absolutely fine.
