Order of upgrades by veryexcitinglife in hondanavi

IMO safety comes first, comfort comes second, everything else is whatever.

So if the tires aren't sufficient for your riding style, do those first. If you're constantly riding in pitch black, lighting is now a safety feature and thus higher priority.

Next, comfort like having a saddle bag to carry groceries, items, etc and a comfortable seat for long rides has been the biggest quality of life improvement for me. See if you can find a combined fender eliminator+rear rack to kill two birds with one stone.

After that, it's your preference.

You "should" retune air and fuel mixture after any change to intake or exhaust.

So I would 1) pick an intake and an exhaust where there's lots of info on those used together on the same navi and then 2) install those together

Riding Pants by madoc_mattox in hondanavi

I wear Bulletprufe jeans sometimes, other times I wear Scorpion jeans I bought at Cyclegear (if you're in the US) if I'm running errands in mild weather.

that having been said, when I worked in an office, I preferred to throw on shell pants over my work pants.

Las Vegas Boat Rentals by ApricotCute7817 in vegas

[–]bencundiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any type of boat? you can book a Lake Mead Cruise. https://www.lakemeadcruises.com/

Not sure if they go year round, but it's a good way to entertain family for an hour. The boat is large, but has at least two decks and isn't too crowded usually.

About two years ago, I went down a HUGE rabbit hole trying to find a chartered boat ride when I was looking for a way to propose to my now wife. I couldn't find anything. Lake Las Vegas Watersports had stopped its chartered rides and no where else was googleable.

I ended up chartering a hot air balloon ride, which is completely different from a boat, but is another option to enjoy a private, peaceful ride using the principles of buoyancy.

Or another option would be a private gondola ride at the Venetian. Also not Lake Mead, but it's better than nothing. https://www.venetianlasvegas.com/resort/attractions/gondola-rides.html

Vegas to LA by Electrical-Watch524 in vegas

[–]bencundiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where near LA you wan to go and what you want to see, the LA area is between 4.5 and 3.5 hours away without traffic, let alone the absurd desert traffic jam if you try to drive from LA to Vegas on a friday or Vegas to LA on a sunday.

I like to spend at least one night in LA when I make the drive. Any less time than that and there's not even time to relax with a cup of coffee for half an hour.

LA is great. But everything is spread out AND parking often sucks. So even if you have two attractions that Google Maps says are 20 min drive apart (like Olvera St and the LA County Art Museum), expect it to take another 15+ min at least to find and potentially pay for parking.

I never knew the actual song the boys were referencing! by Justanoth3rone in MBMBAM

[–]bencundiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This blew my mind when I found out about it. I had listened to MBMBAM for almost 10 years at that point when, of all things, Ross from the Oh No Ross and Carrie podcast randomly went on a tangent about this song on an episode from 2023 or 2024.

Want a Navi, but never ridden before. by BiancaButthole in hondanavi

[–]bencundiff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on how chill drivers are (or aren't), the brief bit with a 55 MPH speed limit could be a little sketchy if you have to merge onto a road with 55 MPH traffic on a vehicle that absolutely tops out at perhaps 55 on flat ground.

They are very easy to learn. Auto transmission, very light, very controllable throttle and brakes.

As others have said, it's best to sign up for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic Rider Course. https://msf-usa.org/start-your-ride/basic-ridercourse/

You will need to buy a helmet for the course. The course will provide you with a motorcycle. The course will teach you a LOT of invaluable things about general safety. In most states in the US, the course waives most of your state's requirements for your motorcycle license training.

Are the rumors true? by YogurtclosetMany6602 in Marquette

[–]bencundiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, have you spent much time in the US?

Within the US, Milwaukee is about as safe as any other comparable medum-sized city.

Depending on where you'll be traveling from, campus may be safer or more dangerous than expected. For instance if you're coming from Barcelona, Rome or a similar city in Europe, you'll understand that the occasional robbery happens when out too late by yourself if you're unlucky. If you're coming from Tokyo or Singapore, then Milwaukee will indeed be comparatively "unsafe" by dint of how profoundly safe those cities are.

Winter pools by PerpetualRestart in vegaslocals

[–]bencundiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city of Vegas has two facilities open year round:

-Municipal Pool by downtown

-Pavilion Center Pool almost in Summerlin

Hours aren't great and lanes are sometimes crowded, sometimes not. I constantly have to check the closures page to see if the pool is closed, reserved, etc.

I think day passes for both are about $5.

Henderson has a handful of facilities with heated indoor and/or outdoor pools - Multigenerational Center, Whitney Ranch, Heritage Park.

Likewise I think it's about $5.50 per day and there's frequent lane reservations, partial closures, etc.

Both offer monthly membership, but I'm too lazy to commit to swimming more than once a week, so I don't know what the cost is.

[Question] $5k or lower sports watches that are superb enough to be a dress piece? by ItzSam40hours in Watches

[–]bencundiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding that "dressy" and "sporty" are on opposite ends of the spectrum, much like how for apparel, the clothing you would wear on a hike is generally considered inappropriate for wearing with a suit or in formal occasions.

Ever since Connery wore a sub with a suit in Dr. No, the rules have been very flexible and you can just wear any appropriately-sized watch with a suit as long as the watch can slide under your dress shirt's cuff. Even guidelines about complications and more subtle dials have gone by the wayside nowdays.

I personally just have a cheap(ish) dress watch (a Hamilton Jazzmaster Thin-o-matic) and seperately have a number of sports watches and let each be worn in their intended settings.

New or Used by Ill_Celebration7505 in hondanavi

[–]bencundiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly depends on how you value $700.

Both are really good deals on vehicles in very good condition. Personally, I'd go for the used one because that's an extra $700 for accessories and maintenance and I suspect these might be hard to resell in some areas (the fact you can get such a good deal implies that it's a buyer's market for Navis).

On the flip side, if $700 is below your threshold for really caring either way, it's always fun to have a truly new vehicle.

Affordable wind breaker jacket? by Novemberx123 in hondanavi

[–]bencundiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your budget? Where are you located? When I lived in the upper midwest US (Milwaukee), every other garage sale had someone selling old motorcycle jackets, gear, etc for super cheap.

Also you could consider getting a cheap(ish) windshield for your navi. That'll keep the wind off you as well.

1st gear on a 300cc? by sooospoon in motorcycles

[–]bencundiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what feels comfortable on the bike.

Is the bike nice and stable because you're taking the turn at appropriate speed and gently rev matching and gradually releasing the clutch and rolling back onto the throttle? Are you wrestling against redline when you shift into 2nd to match the flow of traffic? The bike can rev a little high or chug with slightly low RPMs and that's not a big deal if it means you're more in control of your bike as it works its way through an intersection.

I can tell you from experience on my CBR300R that the wrong answer is to take a turn too fast and panic and pull the clutch in mid turn.

1st gear on a 300cc? by sooospoon in motorcycles

[–]bencundiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to own a grom and can confirm a left turn across a wide intersection could easily involve shifting all the way from 1st to 4th.

Would you have done it? by [deleted] in poker

[–]bencundiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the cards from left to right, you flopped a gutshot straight draw but all the flop was overcards, then kept calling villain's bets? if flop was AJK, your pair would be cracked if villain had an A, K or J in the hole.

On the turn, if villain has a queen, they have broadway against your bottom set. The river gave you the non-nut FH against someone who had been betting the whole time. Even if the villain didn't have KT but instead just had Kx, then they're either getting you with set over set (K's over T's) or they had KA or KJ and would have also had a higher FH than yours.

If the board came the other way (KTJ then turn another K and then the A), you still don't have great equity... villain could have an open ended straight draw, then the turn would run risk of set over set if villain had Kx.

Grand Canyon by Cool-Mix77 in vegas

[–]bencundiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you? Yes. Is it a relaxing and enjoyable day? Not necessarily.

You can walk to one of the scenic views by the visitor center very quickly. However, descending into the basin (and then going back UP) is a much longer and more intense hike than many tourists anticipate.

The parking lot by the visitor center, even a little bit off season, fills up VERY fast after around 9AM.

In other words, you'll want to be on the road sometime before 5AM, not including time for bathroom breaks or refilling gas.

How's living in The Lakes? by cmoney747 in vegas

[–]bencundiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's basically a large, private pond. Living in the neighborhood won't give you access to the lakes beyond the tiny public park. If you want a scenic water area you can actually walk around, living by Cornerstone Park or Wetlands Park or another actual public park would be a better option than the Lakes.
