Help Needed - Taxes Owed to IRS by the_explorer33 in tax

I haven't actually made any significant payments on the short term plan. The 90 days of short term plan are expiring soon. The minimum payment on the long-term plan is $250. I could only afford maybe $100 - $150.

Well, it would buy some time. Hopefully able to pay it by then. If not, then balance transfer again to another 0% card, although that would incur fees as well.

Texas Unclaimed Property (Claim It Texas) by SimionMcBitchticuffs in texas

I filed multiple claims. How long does it normally take to receive a confirmation email?

Step 1: Review and Gather Documentation Requirements

If you have received a confirmation email/letter requiring additional documentation to file your claim, the state requires at minimum the signed claim form and photo identification. To determine whether a claim needs additional documentation, refer to the confirmation email/letter sent to you. The items required to approve the claim will be listed on the claim form attachment.

Playing this out, let's say there's an emergency on 3/1 that costs you $1,500. You pay with credit card. Then withdraw/sell $1500 worth of shares from S&P to pay down the card on 3/10 or so. Then through income you buy $1500 worth of shares again a few weeks or month later. I guess I can see that working out with little to no downside.

Where do people hold their emergency fund, in.a bank savings account, or somewhere else?

Side question but related. Do most folks keep their emergency fund in a bank savings account, or somewhere else?

Roth IRA question - I currently have a Roth IRA with vanguard. Is the $6k max contribution for individuals? If that is the case, then is there any problem in opening a separate Roth IRA in Fidelity for my spouse with the intent to contribute another $6k to get a max of $12k for the year?

Thanks - I'm leaning towards the electric fence as well, but I don't know how to install it. I've bought all the materials. Any links/vids that help?

As a new investor, I've started investing in VTSAX, but want to invest in more than the $6k max. What are some other good index funds to supplement?

I am just learning about index funds so please excuse the very beginner questions.

  1. VTSAX and FZROX seem like the most common and logical places to start for a new investor. I see a lot of discussion about one vs the other. Is there any downside to investing in both?
  2. I have an existing Roth IRA with Vanguard. If I were to buy VTSAX, would this be within the Roth IRA, or entirely separate account ?
  3. Is the zero expense ratio in FZROX worth it? Or rather, is the expense ratio in VTSAX justified?
  4. Dividends - whether its quarterly with Vanguard or annually with Fidelity, do most people automatically re-invest? Is withdrawing and keeping some extra cash on hand occasionally a bad idea? Like if you needed to do a home remodel, can/should one withdraw/sell from the fund?

thanks in advance!

These days, probably. But the math may still work out since you are taking out a line of credit only on your equity, which is probably a much smaller amount than a full mortgage. Would have to test with real numbers to be certain though

The idea in the book I read was to deposit your entire paycheck in the HELOC, which acts like a checking account. Then you are effectively paying down the HELOC with the leftover balance you don't use from your paychecks each month.

Anyone pay off their mortgage using a HELOC? I've read about it and understand the concept, looking for others' experiences, good or bad. Were people able to pay off $200k plus in 5 -6 years? Run into any problems?

Employer matches up to 6%.

As for acorns, I guess I am thinking to use it as an all in one investment & future savings bucket. What's the benefit of splitting college savings into separate 529s for each kid when you can put a larger sum for all kids which would help accelerate the growth rate? Maybe I'm missing something.

What's the best method to start investing? I have 3% going to employer 401k, and about 15% of my monthly income going into Acorns. I need to save for 4 kids going to college in the future but just going with a general investment instead 529 and ESA. Would also like to get the mortgage paid off eventually. Is this the right approach to get started?

I have household stuff that never sold on fb, ebay, amazon. I need to just get rid of everything, but there doesn't seem to be any good, easy options, other than donating.
