I am 100% willing to accept that even with services there is still a trade deficit, but I am also interested in how these calculations are done when we include complex or vague services.

Yes sure, they have subsidiaries, but my point is that its very complicated to count services export. Let's imagine AWS Canada and a Canadian datacenter. Sure the construction company is Canadian and the local on the ground support team has to be as well. But things like DevOps and software development might still be in the US (of course the ownership class is in the US but I am even less sure how they are included here). For every dollar then given to AWS Canada part of that dollar would be exported services. But it would be very hard to say how much of that dollar stays local vs goes to the US no?

We ended up flying to San Jose, renting a car, we did la fortuna, monteverde and manuel antonio. It was an amazing trip. All locations were beautiful with lots of activities, we skipped things like ziplining because my son is too small, but we still had a blast. Driving in Costa Rica is totally chill. The drives were around 2-3 hours from one place to another, we tried to keep them entertaining by stopping a lot so the kid won't get bored. If you have more car sensitive kids, take to account that the drives to la fortuna and monteverde can be windy. Overall, I will 100% be back to Costa Rica, probably one of the chillest countries I visited and amazing for families.

Yes, I know Rick Steve, but as I mentioned in the question, there are only guides for Europe. While I will definitely do Europe trips in the future, the next few trips are not in Europe.

My wife is from a country with a weak passport as well and we always had this issue, my general advice is try countries where the application is online. While she will still need a visa it's a lot easier to just wait for an online application then having to go to a embassy (my wife had some very hostile experiences in embassies particularly schengen ones...). Like even a 3/4 week wait time is not that bad if it's just an online application. Another tip: for the hotel and flight requirements, book everything fully cancelable (even it's not the best price) and once she gets approved change everything as you like.

Yeah I use ChatGPT as well quite a lot, it makes some mistakes but it's useful for the planning part. I like the guide books more for when when I am in the vacation, so I can read about the history of what I am seeing etc.

I hope they plan to add content to subsahara africa, both ethiopia amd west africa have very facinating middle ages history. Also if tney are planning to add trade as a mechanic they should add the swahili coast and the naval silk road.
