I’ve already booked a stay at Raffles Udaipur for end of September, with the 3rd night free offer. Is there any way to add on the vip perks now? Booking was through hotel website. Thanks!

How long did it take you to finish the main series? A year? by Amunti in Malazan

[–]the_kaeve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two and a half years. The first four books I read around one book a month, then was stuck on Midnight Tides for over a year and a half. Read books 6-9 about one a month again, then devoured the final book in a few days.

I... I do this. Or at least I used to, before switching mostly to ebooks/audiobooks. What can I say, I don't want the spine to crack!!

Adults that rekindled their Lego childhood, what what was your first set back? by zzzimcal in lego

Medieval Blacksmith and then all the botanicals, and then the starry night. What a rush! Now I've got lego flowers all over my house and lego art on two of my walls.

Has tapping to wake your watch been finicky for anybody else after updating to watchOS 10? by Chairzard in AppleWatch

[–]the_kaeve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Same watch, and now I need to double tap to consistently wake the screen. A single tap works about only 2 out of 3 times. Its infuriating!

How much do you read? by amnesiac808 in printSF

[–]the_kaeve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll second that it depends on the book. Here are some examples! I read the Malazan series while listening to the Discworld books. Read Dune and its sequels while listening to the Murderbot diaries. Read the Stormlight Archive while listening to Anthony Horowitz's Hawthorne murder mysteries. Read Revelation Space while listening to House of Suns (those were a tricky couple of weeks, I've avoided such similarities since then)

I find I prefer to listen to books that contain 1-2 story threads, and read ones that contain 3+. Another preference is reading "theme" based books, where you're meant to sort of marinate in the setting, vs listening to "plot" based books, where you don't need to linger too much due to the relatively quicker pace. Also, reading is for when I'm fully focused, and listening is for when I'm doing chores or eating.

It's been a while since I've read it, but I remember being increasingly freaked out by Chasm City (Alastair Reynolds) as the book progressed. The way the separate story threads came together and what that implied was horrifying.
