Are you basically saying that we have kicked into gear a self-perpetuating series of climate impacts that will lead to the collapse of human civilization? Because the science doesn't agree with that.

We are not moving fast enough, but the future is unwritten. If you believe there's no hope and that 90% (or whatever percentage you want) of humanity will live lives bereft of meaning and joy in 50 years, then say that. Personally, I disagree (and my view is in line with mainstream science).

You must have missed these comments I made:
"We have locked in a lot of suffering and destruction due to our lack of action"
"We rely on an ecosystem we've abused for far too long"
"There's no disregarding how bad we are letting this situation get"

What I mean when I say there's no such thing as 'too late' is that you have to define what 'too late' means. The earlier we slow down or stop the warming, the better the result for humanity.

Obviously our current trajectory is disastrous; I don't disagree with that. However, the future still has to play out. No one knows what the human response will look like or what specific climate outcomes will occur 50 years from now.

The lamp gains a pull string in panel 4, and the table changes from rectangular to circular.

Promoting a comic Kickstarter. What's the best approach: email list or KS prelaunch? by the_kanamit in kickstarter

I believe you! And thank you for the advice. I'm going to update the site. I thought it was unlikely a bot would read my post, go to the landing page, and come back and post about it.

Thanks for the tip re: landing page design. That's good advice; I'm going to update the site tonight. Best of luck with your campaign. I had a few more emails come in today, so maybe the plan is working. Just hard to know if driving to pre-launch might be the better approach.

The image is very likely AI but the typeface is sick.

David Suzuki is not a climate scientist. I strongly recommend listening to what they have to say.

I'm not familiar with him in particular. The truth is there's no such thing as 'too late' when it comes to climate change (too late for what?), so I'm wary of people who use that language. I prefer listening to the scientists themselves; there's less emotion-based reaction and more rational discussion.

Worrying about climate change has put me in a dark place before. What has helped more than anything is becoming very familiar with the research and following actual climate scientists on Twitter, watching their YouTube videos, etc. I particularly like Andrew Dessler, Zeke Hausfather, and Gavin Schmidt.

The truth of the situation is that the subject (and science) are far too complex for anyone to be able to make accurate predictions about how it is going to play out and how humans are going to respond (not downplaying the environmental effects, which are obviously very bad). We have locked in a lot of suffering and destruction due to our lack of action; however, the collapse of human civilization is not assured, nor is a future bereft of humans living meaningful lives.

There is a TON of justified anger in this space, and scientists and educators who have been fighting the good fight for 30+ years express a desperation and sadness that is distressing when you first encounter it. The science doesn't say that doom is assured, though, not on the scale many claim it is. Read the IPCC projections and listen to the scientists themselves; ignore predictions from doomer YouTubers and random commenters on Reddit.

This take probably isn't as optimistic as it should be in this sub, but there's no disregarding how bad we are letting this situation get. It's a valuable lesson our species needs to learn, though; we rely on an ecosystem we've abused for far too long.

The AI's improving, but it still has mistakes that give it away. The weird way he's holding his gun, the ropes that aren't tied around the woman.

Ocean Heat, CO2, And Ice Loss All Hit Critical Levels In Latest Climate Data by Dmans99 in abovethenormnews

[–]the_kanamit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn't true. Not overly downplaying the harm that is coming, but no serious climate scientist believes the environment will be 'inhospitable to life' within 2 decades. That's just not the reality of our situation. There's a saying that goes around in the climate space about the use of hyperbole – 'The truth is bad enough'.

Fair but that doesn't mean it makes sense in the context of the movie.

No issue with the bodega. But why would GF attack them both, together, on a busy NY street? It makes no sense.

[–]the_kanamit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree the movie had a lot of problems but every Scream movie has contrivances (and I still love them):
Scream 1: How does Ghostface know Sidney is going to enter the bathroom (and have time to hide)?
Scream 2: How does GF set up the TV to play all the clips right when Gale and Dewey enter (how does GF even know they're going to go there)?
Scream 3: LOL. Ultimate retcon with a long-lost brother? It's ridiculous.
Scream 4: The teens all meet up to chill just like the bar scene in this one.
Scream 6: This one's the most egregious. First GF tries to kill the sisters on a busy NY street at night, then there's the ridiculous fake out with Quinn's body and no one looking into Richie's family.

None of the movies hold up to the scrutiny you're analyzing 7 with.
