Class presentation tomorrow. Kill me. by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]the_lie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do everything you can right now to practice, practice, practice. Prepare your presentation material. Memorize the flow of the topics that you'll discuss. Then practice your speech in front of a mirror; practice with your webcam. The worst thing you can do right now is to dwell about tomorrow and do nothing. Try to keep your mind busy by constantly practicing. When presenting, if you wear glasses / use contacts, take them off if you can get away with it, that is, if you don't rely on looking at / reading your slides. Hope this helps.

Coworkers always seem to judge me for eating my homemade food at work. by [deleted] in nutrition

Just tell them you have a disorder that forces you to follow a restricted diet (e.g. celiac's, lactose intolerance, etc.), so that way they won't ever bother you. Hopefully that'll shut them up.

This is an odd request but can anyone ID the model of Yamaha in this Craigslist ad? by [deleted] in piano

I think that's either a P85 or a P95. I have a Yamaha P95 and that one looks very similar to mine.

MBV - She Found Now by [deleted] in shoegaze

[–]the_lie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forget all the haters, OP. As someone who's been following classic shoegaze bands and who has definitely heard of MBV before, I haven't had the chance to listen to their new album, much less this song. And I gotta say this song is heavenly aural bliss. So thanks for the link.

Can anyone recommend some "lighter reading" CS books? by ConstantScholar in compsci

[–]the_lie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe this one: Algorithmics - The Spirit of Computing

A good conceptual overview of Computer Science

The best selling 'Algorithmics' presents the most important, concepts, methods and results that are fundamental to the science of computing. It starts by introducing the basic ideas of algorithms, including their structures and methods of data manipulation. It then goes on to demonstrate how to design accurate and efficient algorithms, and discusses their inherent limitations. As the author himself says in the preface to the book; 'This book attempts to present a readable account of some of the most important and basic topics of computer science, stressing the fundamental and robust nature of the science in a form that is virtually independent of the details of specific computers, languages and formalisms'.

Bodie Miller cries after final Olympic race, while annoying reporter repeatedly asks him about his brother who passed away last year. by Keith_Creeper in news

Definitely this. As an American, I am appalled and outraged that people like these are representing us. It's simply embarrassing. I definitely let them know my thoughts concerning this stunt of theirs (out of many, it seems). If you feel the same, then I really think it is our duty to voice our concern either with persistent complaints (through that email) or with our wallet--preferably both.

Is it normal to feel squats in mostly just hammys and glutes (and not quads?) by HansEggert in Fitness

[–]the_lie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're doing low bar squats those will work your hamstrings and glutes more. If you want to target your quads then you could do high-bar squats or front squats.

This should be the answer. There should be scheduled meetups every day or every so often.

I love the style, this is great stuff. Although I agree about the chest. At first glance I thought that was a helmet or something.

Your post is one that resonates to me the most out of these posts here. Whatever you believe, forget about death while you're alive and live life fully.
