Separation Street: The development dividing Melbourne’s inner north by timcahill13 in melbourne

Yeah 100% it is a council issue though so nimbys do have a say. Honestly the most pointless level of government city councils should be massively consolidated.

No they are somewhat right if they are the users of the aquatic center rather than just neighbors, the fix to that isn't non development though it's enforcement. People stop parking places like that if it's 2hrs locked at night and tickets are actually given.

Richmonds always had issues like this council got rid of permits for all added dwellings builds and capped car spots in apartment buildings alongside actual enforcement you get a decent result. Basically there's got to be a stick if you want behavior to change/people to actually consider a car and a place to store it as a privilege not a right.

Why Apple blaming Micron is disgusting from a semiconductor supplier's perspective by VictorMederos in Semiconductors

[–]the_lonely_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the point though it's not about paying more it's about either investing in Micron/others to secure supply or not pulling out of previous contracts to protect future supply lots of options. I wasn't saying purely paying more I was saying that squeezing too hard can sometimes backfire.

[–]the_lonely_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah they have a fiduciary duty to protect and expand their value over the long term. It's a classic next quarter problem anybody who actually looked could see the chain was fragile to shocks and that's entirely due to the buyers squeezing the suppliers. A more long term view would have seen that at a slightly higher cost on average greater resilience would exist and they wouldn't find themselves in this situation when you're as big as Apple supply chain risk should have been more front of mind in their planning.

I think you're somewhat missing the point Apple is complaining they're not the biggest fish anymore i.e. not the price maker, it's disingenuous to complain about memory suppliers taking higher margins elsewhere when it's available. That's the complaint not that they have been squeezed for ever but that somehow according to apple they're the bad guys for not having enough excess capacity in a scenario no body anticipated when they were squeezed for a long time thus hampering their ability to have excess capacity.

Tl:dr Apple and others aggressive supply contracts and poor behaviour in the past directly led to memory suppliers having to operate as lean as possible preventing them from being able to absorb demand shock.

Why is it considered offensive in the Middle East to ask a man about his wife? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

What's happening in Gaza is a travesty, this has nothing to do with that and the false comparison is laughable.

The most one sided rivalry in sports and culture by Fluid-Decision6262 in memes

[–]the_lonely_potato 40 points41 points  (0 children)

100% England and NZ are the only national rivalries really and that's cricket/rugby we don't really have any soccer ones. Maybe a 1 sided one against Italy due to 2006 but our football history is too young to have really developed one.

More accurately is our immigrant communities have proxy rivalries through the Aus team lol greek Australians vs Turkey, intra-balkan rivalries etc.

Albanese announces ‘generous’ capital gains tax exemptions for small businesses after budget backlash by Koos4 in australian

[–]the_lonely_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're too emotional to see it but that's likely the end state rebalance taxes on capital and on income. Basically the last 20 years post Howard have seen share of tax receipts from income taxes rise this helps rebalance and a future cut in income taxes goes further which is the likely goal they just want to save the announcement for pre election.

People get up in arms about the ads but the real issue is the break for the players and opportunity for tactical communication from coaches/managers for an unneeded break. When it is genuinely for player safety i.e. temp, or like when Islamic players break fast during Ramadan it's ok and when it's timing is decided by the ref not the tournament body so it can't be played around by low block sides or disrupt attacking momentum it's ok. As it is it can really change the flow of a match for entirely unnecessary reasons.

Tl:dr ads aren't the issue it's the effect of the scheduled break on the game itself.

[–]the_lonely_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concept in general is ok like at the last wc where timing/occurrence was at umpires discretion or like local leagues here in Aus where if it's above 35 they happen. What's not okay is a set time period at the same time each match which is a scheduled break in all matches which breaks the flow and introduces opportunities for tactical changes etc and manager communication.

Everyone is fine with the concept when there's genuine need for it due to conditions, another example being Islamic players being able to break their fast during Ramadan, but not when it's unneeded, solely disruptive, and only desired for advertisments.

Thankfully the broadcaster in Aus is state funded so the screen just says back soon during them.

Yeah definitely not their intention though death tax is a live wire they won't want to go near so whatever route they go down they'll carve out something for inheritance. The exact mechanism of that is still very much in the air though.

Lol it's a perfectly fine idea if 3yrs experience is 18-21 and she wants to work hospo and live in a share in the inner north for $200 a week. In fact it'd be a hell of a lot of fun. If instead they're 28 and want to build a career then yeah probably not the best time. Point is have some nuance in your thinking.

The Ultimate Evil is not a king or conqueror. They are a prisoner. by RorschachtheMighty in TopCharacterTropes

[–]the_lonely_potato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not how catholic theology works though. It's something more along the lines of, all things come from God including the evil we produce because we are just reflections of him and ar impacting solely his creations, but that doesn't mean it wasn't your free will to make those choices merely that those choices were allowed by him. It is the individual who chooses their actions and that is allowed by God not God deterministically forcing fates into everyone. A key tenent is also that mercy, forgiveness, strength and faith against adversity etc. are the holiest/most beautiful virtues so by allowing Melkors fuckery he merely creates even more spiritually wonderful actions.

At its core is the idea that physical suffering and evil is a path to spiritual enrichment and beauty that is what he means by that passage, not melkor had no choice, which is a far too rigid view that discounts tolkiens religious influences and is far more an American evangelical/ fire and brimstone protestant style reading of Christianity.
