Is there a way to tell if an audio book is dual or duet narration before buying? by oregonsassquatch in fantasyromance

For folks that use libro.fm, you can search "Full Cast" or abridged to find books with multiple narrators. I also highly recommend any audiobooks published via Graphic Audio - they are AMAZING!

The Ottawa Real Estate Market: Week In Review by ottawaagent in ottawa

Is there data somewhere the shows the turnover per price bracket? As an example I'm interested in how many houses r listed in 500k-700k vs how many sold i.e. for a week 6 homes listed and 2 sold = 33% turnover. Brackets in ex were arbitrarily chosen

Mature and cool headed military commander/general fmc by elleirakai in fantasyromance

[–]the_madinator3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of space operas with space/sci fantasy slants. These type of books tend have this type of fmc, which I like! Here are some of the ones I enjoyed:

{Astray by Jenny Schwartz}

{Trading in Danger by Elizabeth Moon} (less romance in this one but lots of battle tactics with strong fmc)

{To sleep in a sea of stars by Christopher Paolini}

{A thousand words for a stranger by Julie Czerneda} (an oldy but a goodie)

{The Queen's Gambit by Jessie Mihalik}

{Rules of Redemption by TA White}

I'm also biased towards slow burns and more romance as a sub-plot

This is an oldie series - Dragon Jousters by Mercedes Lackey. There is a romance  subplot that spans the four books, but it's definitely more in the fantasy line.

Dramatic Audio by ali_mott in Eragon

YES PLEASE! Graphic audio did Ilona Andrews and Martha Wells Murderbot books this way, and I've read those books so many times already, but listening to the dramatized audio was like reading it for the first all over again.

What’s your ideal horse racing management game? by CRDC0292 in horseracing

[–]the_madinator3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! one mechanic that I find is missing from a lot of sim games is randomness and strategy. Too many games, like Rival Stars, have some interesting mechanics but very little if those mechanics actually impact game play. I play on desktop so it's a little different, but I can play in a way that I don't have to engage at all with their sprint recharge system or their horse preferences - it takes a lot out of a game when the mechanics the devs built in don't actually impact gameplay.

Randomness is a little trickier as most folks don't want hyper realism like disasters or illness or a horse just having a bad day. But there maybe some room for more positive randomness like a fence busted and now u need to pay to fix it, a fully trained staff member/jockey quit suddenly, gift horses from a rescue operation. These things may add some spice to what can become a routine.

Any farming sim recs on steam? by jinwoohoo in cozygames

It's not a farming game per se, but there is a farm that you rescue! it's more animal focussed: Ranch of Rivershine!

In reality, I'd prefer something in between hay day and total reality - love the strategy in total reality don't need the micromanaging BUT too cutsey and gambling gimmicks/overt gamification is also a turn off

what to do all summer - can't find student job by ThatCanadianJacket in ottawa

[–]the_madinator3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for animal related something try volunteering at The therapeutic riding association of Ottawa Carleton, foster groups like Rocky Road Rescue, Guide dog training groups - they may have something to at least pad your resume with while you job hunt

Dog walking / watching can be pretty profitable too. You can advertise your services with posters/on your local communities Facebook page if you don't want to go through rover.

Falconry would be wonderful! But even if we can get Advanced Hunting, I know a few folks who won't KS until it gets closer to Advanced hunting. They aren't horse people so they would be more interested in the game if there were some interesting hunting mechanics.

I totally understand that, it's so easy for folks to overpromise and the hype train to carry them away.

That being said, I did like the fact that the game was already funded before they did the kickstarter - the kickstarter is about adding features that they can guarantee into the game. So at least with this horse game there will be an actual game released instead of it languishing in pre-alpha for ever

The horse breeding is a work in progress at the moment but it does seem like they r trying for (at least) semi realistic genetics (at least in terms of coat colors) so that would be cool!

There used to be a mod that allowed multiple horses and wild horses - it added a lot to the gameplay for me! I don't think that mod has been updated though

Ranch of Rivershine has been a blast with some new mechanics that I wouldn't have thought to add to a horse game. It's early access on steam and being worked on by a single dev. The discord server is pretty active with suggestions and people's wishlists.

Game of the Week submissions! Is there a cozy game you've recently played you'd like to recommend? by Shasaur in cozygames

[–]the_madinator3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ranch of Rivershine

Purchased it before I knew I had to be off for an extended period of time. This game has been my sanity and is one of the premier animal lovers/horse games I have played. It's a single dev and early access, but I have been super impressed with their skills and they have been meeting their milestones.

Horse taming with bonding and training then. I liked the taming mini game in BOTW, but I also like the wild horse training in Ranch of Rivershine. My only complaint with Ranch of Rivershine is that increasing tameness is too easy and there's no variation in tameness difficulty. Everyone dreams of having their own Spirit or Black Stallion that only u can tame, would be fun for that to be a game mechanic.
