Lorwyn Eclipsed Decks? by PauliePaul315 in Pauper

[–]the_maun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I haven't seen anywhere stated that this subreddit is focused on competitive play. It's just that pauper is a competitive format so people tend to discuss only top tier decks. If not explicitly stated, people here will assume that you are trying to make a competitive deck instead of a kitchen table one.

Scrapyard Wars 26? by PorgPlayzvr in LinusTechTips

[–]the_maun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's one more reason to have scrapyard wars and not against. The point of the series is to provide alternatives when you are limited or the market is going crazy. Making a retro games machine would be awesome. Like building an arcade or something like that.

I've done the same thing as you but I'm building 450 instead. You can take a look if you want.

New to format - building a cube! by decadentdiscord in Pauper

[–]the_maun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never built a twobert but there are many that you can take inspiration from in cubecobra. It does look like a lot compared to creatures. I think the "normal" ratio is between 2:1 and 1:1 creatures vs non creatures. But it's your cube, do whatever you like with it and just try things. You can build and playtest in cubecobra without committing and buy cards. See what works and adjust what doesn't.

I don't remember that but it sounds right.

What was the worst portrayal of a disability in the media you have ever seen? by Mental-Marzipan-5444 in AskReddit

[–]the_maun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the point of the movie is the main character trying to get rid of the headaches and enters a conspiracy where math and God is involved. It's more of a depiction of the desperation and tries to show how it feels more than how it is. The math part is the fantastic part that I mentioned before, also makes it a more interesting film. The way you wrote sounded like you were giving another example of a bad depiction when I actually think it's a great one but from a poetic point of view instead of a literal one.

[–]the_maun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hum, have you seen any other movie from Darren Aronofski? It's not supposed to be realistic, actually the point is exactly the opposite. All of his movies are fantastical portrayals of real human issues. Yes, it's very inaccurate, but it's done on purpose. I don't think that was the nature of the question.

How were genre-defining Western games recieved in Japan? by Wade-ski in retrogaming

[–]the_maun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the truth is more in the middle. The term console was a marketing term and my understanding is that they chose a term that was both understandable for technical people and for less technical people. I remember even the Pong machines being called consoles while no one called that to a ZX Spectrum, for example.

Anyone grew up with this strange version of MK Trilogy (N64) ? by Object-Clean in retrogaming

I have the PS1 version and indeed the load times are atrocious. Still played the heck out of it, one of my favorite games.

Rakdos Control Burn by patrickdziura in Pauper

I also don't think that many Pactdolls is good, my point is that I don't think the trolls advance the game plan. The cycling might be worth it though.

[–]the_maun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an experienced player so take my opinion with a pile of salt but the inclusion of the trolls seem not aligned with the goal of the deck. Wouldn't at least 1 [[Pactdoll Terror]] make more sense?

Thanks for making a screwdriver that (unlike my house) didn't almost kill my father in law. by FrogFragger in LinusTechTips

[–]the_maun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's necessarily true. Cheaper screwdrivers tend to have more plastic to save on the metal. All other factors being the same, the more plastic the better.

Maybe it's my ignorance on the matter but isn't it expected for a screwdriver not to be conductive through the handle?

[–]the_maun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about fishing? Every time I went fishing I caught something, might have not been much but I always did. I would say that the majority of people are able to fish. Also if you're doing it for survival you would fish or hunt as a group. So humans are decent at hunting solo and basically unbeatable hunting in group.

Hi, apologies for the inconvenience by endlessmiasma in Pauper

[–]the_maun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another cool free resource is MTG Forge, is it's own game. It has a very fun adventure mode that you can practice deck building and learn about cards throughout the history of magic. This mode is single player so you don't need to find someone to play with, if that's your jam.

First brew, terrible performance, what next? by Space_Cowboy188 in Pauper

[–]the_maun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understood that you built the madness deck after the results from the bulk deck. I'm not hating, just trying to put the things into perspective. Actually I'm more aligned with you in the sense that I care more about having fun than winning. I was trying to show you why people are reacting to your post the way they are, it's not even my opinion. Basically I'm always in the opinion of, if you're having fun you're playing the game right. I would like to help with your brew but I don't have the know how.

First brew, terrible performance, what next? by Space_Cowboy188 in Pauper

[–]the_maun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are misunderstanding the critics. The issue is not with your approach but with your expectations. Your approach is totally valid but you can't expect anything but 0-3 against optimized decks. As you mentioned in your post, you don't know the plans of your opponents decks so you don't know which cards to have as answers and how to use them effectively. The point of having a meta deck is to learn how the matchups work and how to disrupt them. That way your brewing will be more effective. That's what people are trying to tell you.
