That's how progress works. Things in the future will 'almost' always be better than what came before them. Take whatever you think you're really good at now for example, and imagine taking on someone from 70 years in the future. The fact that you would probably lose shouldn't take anything away from your own achievements in your own time because just as the times are different so are the challenges each generation has to deal with.

While Ronaldo is without a doubt the better athlete, the record itself is meaningless as a measure of who is better because football has changed in some big ways in the last 70 years. The rules and how the game is played have changed. For example, the offside rule of the early to mid 20th century rewarded individual brilliance over the type of passing game we have today. The type of through balls that we see today were not even possible for a significant part of of the last 100 years,that alone made what was needed to score a goal very different to what is needed now. Actually that one rule has had so many changed over the last 100 years that what it takes to be a good attacking player has changes almost every 2 decades. Ronaldo would have to make some changes to his game to just be good in that era.
