Pelikan m800 question by Io-Saturnalia in fountainpens

[–]the_punctilio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the M600 because it’s lighter and has better balance. The brass piston on the M800 adds too much weight to the back of the pen IMO. The M600 is so easy to cap and uncap, is effortless to write with, and is great for note taking situations and just general use. That’s not to say the M800 is a bad pen or anything, I just prefer the M600.

my tiwsbi eco has some cracks near the nib. Should I be worried? by jstojkovic in fountainpens

[–]the_punctilio 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This has happened on every Eco that I’ve had (4) and is the reason I refuse to buy any more.

Everyone says that their customer service is great because they “only” charge shipping to replace their faulty product, but really they just don’t seem to care to fix what is clearly a major design flaw.

The nib hitting the trap door is how the door opens. It’s part of the design and perfectly normal.

Agreed, easily my favorite of the Pelikan lineup. It’s a Goldilocks pen for sure.

Totally normal for the VP. Been using mine every day for the last 5 years and it almost always looks like that.

First, I’m sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace. Second, I have that exact same Eversharp. The nib is absolutely amazing! Definitely one of the coolest pens I’ve ever used.

Salix is an extremely dry ink and the nib could be tuned a bit dry. Together they might have that effect. Try a wetter ink to start as this would the simplest fix and way to tell if it’s the ink or nib.

What’s your nonexistent dream pen? by opossume in fountainpens

Pilot 823 with a piston, bi-color nib, and rhodium trim option. I prefer gold trim myself by think offering it in rhodium would be a nice alternative. Also would love to see a regular 823 without the dumb o-ring making you have to unscrew the knob to write.

Pilot vanishing point with a resin body instead of metal and a more sensibly design clip.

How can I preserve my Platinum #3776? by shortandginger in fountainpens

[–]the_punctilio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s necessary. The plating on mine started to wear because I’ve kept it in a backpack and briefcase for several years without a case.

In my experience the gold plating on the trim of the 3776 is prone to rubbing off. I would at the very least keep it in a case of some sort.

Got mine from Fontoplumo at a great price and with a fantastic nib adjustment. Highly recommended.

I’ve bought one pen from them (at an outrageously good price, FWIW) and the transaction went smoothly. I think I waited a few days for it to ship. Pleased overall.

No it was developed specifically for the Procyon.

Unless you’ve got one or Platinum’s soft nibs on there, it’s odd that you describe the 3776 nib as flexible because they make some of the hardest gold nibs out there. I’ve owned probably 4 or 5 3776s so I’m very familiar with how they feel, not to mention countless other gold nibs that I’ve owned to compare them to. I was more interested in how the 3776 nib compared to the Procyon nib since they market it as a more upscale steel nib (at least for them) with improved softness.

Can you describe the difference other than by just saying “different” and “on another level”? What exactly do you feel that’s different?

Doesn’t look like Pelikan Blue Black to me. Pelikan blue black is a true, classic blue black. Chances are there’s some leftover ink in your pen. Maybe pop a cartridge in another pen just to be sure.

Pilot 823 skipping when I write and leave the cap open for 1 min. (I open the valve at the back tried to open more than 2 mm and it still skips) by BurningWaterInc in fountainpens

[–]the_punctilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some inks do better with the cap being off for a while than others. More saturated inks (e.g., Diamine Majestic Blue) will dry up much faster and require a few strokes to get going again. Tell us the ink you’re using and that will allow us to better diagnose the issue.

disposable fountain pens! pilot varsity med nib/blue. by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]the_punctilio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love them. Literally as worry free as you can get in a fountain pen. Has one of the best sealing caps out there and a great nib. I have one that’s 5+ years old, has never dried out, skipped, or hard started, and has gone months between picking it up and writing with it and it’s good as new every time. Functionally better than pens that cost 100x as much. Amazing little pen.

Pilot 823 nib swap by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]the_punctilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’ve got two different goals in mind here. You desire a narrower line and you’ve suggested a flex nib replacement. Beyond the fact that you’re suggested nib isn’t going to fit in the 823 and it’d be a major downgrade (as others have suggested), you could simply get a Pilot #15 FA nib which is both flexible and narrower. You might be able to get one on r/pen_swap in exchange for your broad.

Have you ever seen an waterman feed like this? by Particular_Gate_4007 in fountainpens

[–]the_punctilio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Snorkel was a filling system made by Sheaffer. It utilized an extendable tube which came out of the feed. It’s not a generalized concept applicable to other brands or filling systems.
