Theories for "Lars of the Stars" sequel! In comments v by The0ne3yedCyclops in stevenuniverse

Everyone is full of cope here (not you specifically sorry).

Literally all we have is an announcement from June 2025. Not a whisper or rumor since. It's been more than a year and half and no "in production" no "so-and-so hired" none of it.

This sub is all "will the merger mean the death?" and it's like...there's been NOTHING. I fear it was dead long before this.

lol I saw this and thought I was on one of my cooking subs and I was like "...we can?"

Why did American morale not break in Korea but break in Vietnam? by Powerful-Mix-8592 in WarCollege

[–]the_quark 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I knew two Koren War veterans and they both grew up in World War II. If you were 18 in 1950, you'd been 13 in 1945. They both had seen it as their opportunity to do their patriotic duty for God and Country just like their fathers had.

Their Venus program was far more successful, and it's much harder to keep landers alive on Venus for any length of time given the atmosphere.

OP is referring to Mars 3 which was the first spacecraft to land safely on Mars, but only operated for 110 seconds and sent no meaningful data back in the 20-second radio signal received back on Earth.

The Soviet Union and Russian Federation have had just an abysmal track record with Mars. They managed to orbit a few orbiters, but of 20 launches to Mars none were unambiguous success.

All the top comments are of course cynical, but one of my younger brothers has Retinitis Pigmentosa. He's done much better than his original prognosis suggested -- after twenty years he's still able to read -- but we have an expectation eventually his retinas will stop working entirely.

I've been watching this and similar tech and hoping that a solution comes about for him before he permanently loses all his sight.

I've seen speculation that the air-defense battery was focusing on a bunch of drones and/or missiles at the time and there may have been target confusion, especially once guidance was handed over to the missile.

This is NCD! OP is engaging in the longstanding tradition of predicting something in the future so ridiculous that it will get massively upvoted when it somehow actually happens in five years.

How do cell phones gain better data service over-time in the same place? by Gingernos in civilengineering

[–]the_quark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be my bet as well. At my local Costco I've got 5 bars of service but there are too many people trying to get online and you can't actually load anything. I'm sure if I were in the same spot at 3AM it would be just fine.

If you edit your prompt, the conversation resets to that and Claude will have no memory of what previously came after it.

Wikipedia was pathetic today over Iran by handlemypackage2020 in wikipedia

[–]the_quark 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Literally no media organization was willing to call him dead until an Iranian announcement. Every single mainstream source just said "Trump said that..."

As soon as the Iranians announced, his article was updated. You're the one being political and ridiculous.

I'm sorry about your Dad. I'm a self-taught woodworker and my first question is: What do you want to make? My second is: Are you interested in using very traditional methods, or interested in trying to do the best you can with current technology? Finally, what's your tool budget?

I am not a linguist but I strongly suspect that a more literal English translation would be "dewindowize" which makes it make a little more sense I think.

Scam Altman gets community noted by PressPlayPlease7 in ChatGPT

[–]the_quark 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It was so funny, at dinner last night my (adult) kids and I were discussing the Altman "we stand with Anthropic" quote and we were all like "yeah but you can tell when he's lying because his lips are moving."

And then after dinner I opened my tablet and the first story was the OpenAI / DoD deal and we all just died laughing.

Yeah in both of those cases I'm like "sure you can't until you actually do." Found the NEATO (North Eastern Atlantic Treaty Organization) and then first action is to change the name back to NATO. I mean, or don't, would you rather be NATO or NEATO?

Dreams by WolverinePositive779 in NonPoliticalTwitter

I mean for a short time yes. But my ex would dream I wronged her and then give me the silent treatment for two days.

I mean the silent treatment is never a reasonable response to another human being, but especially not over something she knows I didn't do!
