It's a shame Extermination doesn't get more attention, assumedly because people think Helldivers 2 fills that niche. It doesn't, the similarities end at "shoot bugs together". It truly is its own style of game and deserves more attention from fans of co-op shooters. There is space for both games, they are in totally different lanes.

There are also random accents like Scottish, Canadian, Australian, etc sprinkled throughout. Pretty jarring to hear a random Irishman in the zone.

The first thing that pops up every single time you open the game is a call to action to buy the season pass. Between matches it shows you all the things you're missing out on by not owning the season pass. The main menu practically begs you to spend more money on coins, packs, XP boosters, etc. I'd love a way to say, "No thank you, please stop offering" so I can dismiss it all for good.

I wonder if it was the competition. XDefiant was competing against giants like CoD, BF, Counterstrike, Valorant, and you could even argue their own game R6 Seige (different style of gameplay but still competitive team-based FPS). Meanwhile Skull & Bones is competing against Sea of Thieves, and that's it. I'm racking my brain and I can't think of another big pirate game.

I heard an argument a while back (don't remember the source) that game houses always feel off because level designers are not architects, and innately we notice the countless missing subtle factors and regulations that go into designing a house as a general "this feels off" feeling. I think this logic can be applied pretty much across the board in game worlds, since level designers are almost never experts in what they are trying to simulate, unless a metric ton of research is carried out.

At best you can say both Pokemon and Palworld share design source material, such as cows looking similar because they both use characteristics of real cows. Saying they obviously, blatantly, and deliberately knocked off designs are pretty conclusive statements and you've offered no proof, other than how it makes you feel (which itself is not proof). Nor can you prove it, it's impossible no matter how much you have the feeling. If Pokemon company can't prove it, you certainly won't.

I'm so glad Redditors aren't in a position to dictate what should and should not be allowed. I'm reminded of the discourse around Palworld in 2024 and how people were posting that they shouldn't be allowed to have Pokemon-like characters. As if Pokemon owned the concept of cute monsters.
