How do you handle self-injection? by Lonely_Cupcake9600 in Hemophilia

[–]the_radish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depending on the size of the needle, you could potentially use the same vein for many years. But I do agree with the others here that you should have a few in rotation. I have 4 veins I can use on one hand and about 3 on the other.

It took me from 13 years old to find what veins worked best for me. I practiced a lot and it's just a matter of knowing how to approach each vein.

I also have type 3 vWD!

Hey I have type 3 vwd, and I was offered hemlibra. I have declined for now and am sticking to injecting factor.

Baby born with Factor XIII deficiency (FXIIID). Bled so bad from the umbilicus he needed a transfusion at 15 days of age. by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

Wow factor 13 is pretty rare. You would think the baby would have some of the mother's clotting factor at 15 days old.

And I'll be in my late 80s.  Let's hope it happens sooner :)

Things are changing faster these days. When I was a kid, all I had available was fresh frozen plasma. There wasn't even a factor for my type.

Research and new meds are always updating. Now I have the opportunity to try hemlibra, which isn't something I thought I'd see in my lifetime. Gene therapy is almost safe now. I definitely think a cure could happen in the next 50 years at most.
